Jayseadee - Fishbone was fine, nothing fancy but perfect for us. Great view and stargazing as advertised. Private and secluded, could hear the surf from Ditleff point. Would stay there again. Carebare - The weather was great for the most part. Sunday the 6th we got quite a bit of rain from about 10 ...

Just got back from St. John
We got back home last night after spending 9 nights in St. John and of course we had a great time. We stayed in a one-bedroom cottage in Fish Bay called Fishbone. This was our second trip to St. John. Our first trip was seven years ago. We went to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. Highlights o...

Have no fear Salamander. We are also arriving in St. John tomorrow night and after a few weeks of Colorado winter weather are not fazed by the possibility of some rain with temps in the 70's and 80's. Last February we were in Costa Rica and never even saw a cloud let alone rain. The highs were in th...

The zip off pants are the way to go. Last year we went to Costa Rica in early February. The plan was to leave our jackets in the car at the airport. Well, wouldn't you know it was 18 below in Denver that morning, so we ended up wearing our heaviest coats. We didn't want to lug them around so we put ...

ScottB, Maggy, LMG and Ken have done a fine job describing Kauai. Here's my 2 cents worth. We have been to Kauai 3 times and will be going to St. John for the second time in January. They are both fantastic places, and you can't go wrong going to either island. I think I could live on Kauai full tim...

Thanks for the feedback all. I forgot to mention that we will have luggage to check, so that will add to the check in time. We are thinking about staying in St. Thomas the night before we leave. Another possibility is to take the afternoon nonstop to Miami and overnight there, as we would get to Mia...

Can we make an 8:35 AM flight?
We are going to St. John next January and we are trying to decide on our return trip to Denver. It looks like our best option for the first leg has us leaving STT on the AA 8:35 AM flight to Miami.
Can we make it OK if we take the 6AM ferry to Red Hook? This will be on a Saturday.
Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback everybody. We could go with only one stop in Miami, but that will cost about $500 more and won't get us there any sooner on the way down. On the way back, the layover in Miami would only be 50 minutes and I don't want to miss the connection and spend the night there, so it lo...

San Juan airport questions
My wife and I are traveling to St. John next winter after a 7 year absence. I haven't booked the flights yet, but it looks like we will be flying on American and having a layover in San Juan both coming and going. How long of a layover in San Juan do we need to make sure that we and our luggage make...
