Glad you enjoyed Kauai and congrats on making it to Hanakapiai Falls and back.

That is a tough hike. Kauai's locals are among the nicest and most generous people you will find anywhere. I'm not surprised they gave their food to you.

djmom - The hike to Hanakapiai Falls is more strenuous than Ram Head. I would roughly equate it to doing the Reef Bay hike down and back distancewise but it has more ups and downs than the Reef Bay hike which is pretty much downhill all the way down and uphill all the way back. Just take it slow and...

Great reports and pix jmq. We have been to Kauai 3 times and are planning on going next February as it has now been over 10 years since we have been there. Way too long. How was the swimming at Lumaha'i? I've heard it is pretty dangerous, probably safer in the summer than the winter since it's on th...

Well, paulandtracie, I hate to break this to you but Que Onda is no longer a restaurant. They turned it into an artist's retreat. No more Viva Mexico pasta, dang! We were sad about that. However, we have decided that it is impossible to get a bad meal anywhere in that town. We stayed in Half Moon Ba...

alw- Thanks for the great report. IM is one of the places we would like to go someday. I agree that there are parts of Mexico I wouldn't go to and hopefully the violence will not reach the Yucatan. Terry (and others who refuse to go to Mexico) I am not going to try to convince you to go as that is c...

The Southern Cross is a star constellation that is only visible from about the Tropic of Cancer southward. The only US states it is visible from are Hawaii and the Florida keys. The best viewing times of the year from the northern tropics is May and June. It is visible at other times of the year, bu...

Try the Handsome Boys geocache if it isn't already on your list. Beautiful spot on Hansen Bay. A little hill climbing to get to the cache. Yes, you need to bring your GPS. We put in a Timbertech deck a couple of years ago and are really happy with it. Our final two choices were between Timbertech and Evergrain. We decided on Timbertech just because we liked the texture better, but I think both are very good products.

Sunsets are not my strong suit, but I think this is a pretty good one from above Fish Bay. Bovocoap Point is the mound on the left. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/22826825@N05/2195401114/" title="Untitled by TeddySalad, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr....

TS - the front range is beautiful...headed to 10th Mtn Hut in March. We'll prep by carving turns down Mt Evans. Hope to have 8'-10' of powder. Chet -- You should have lots of snow up there. The mountains have gotten dumped on this winter as I'm sure you know. Denver is finally getting some snow. We...

Un-be-frikin-believable! Our kids have been out of school for 4 whole days and there is only 2" of ice here in Dallas. We are so wimpy~ No, you are not wimpy. I've been in those ice storms that you get and I'll take two feet of snow any day. :) Here is a view of Denver this morning from...

We will be in Xcaret for Thanksgiving. How did you transfer back and forth from the airport? I was thinking of booking with a private transfer company. PA Girl: also check out USA Transfers. Top-notch outfit. We used them last year to go from the Cancun airport to Akumal and back and will be using ...

Perfect timing and locations for us! We'll be able to see south for the whole week. I'm going to scour the horizon from our hot tub every evening! Now if the weather will cooperate...the extended forecast is looking pretty cloudy. Also, will the moon affect visibility? Good timing for you regarding...
