Cynical me can see the rationale behind this. With the VI eventually taking ownership of the new ferries for the Red Hook – Cruz Bay run, and leasing them out to the highest bidder, this increases the value of those leases if the winning bidder is assured having more paying customers. Sigh! Time to ...

Does AA still run that non-stop out of JFK? JMQ: Its still running. My daughter's taking it down to stay w/ us in June. Fare was about $435 w/ taxes. But now it doesn't arrive in STT til around 130pm. We usually fly to STT out out of EWR, as its the most convenient, w/ the Continental non-stop. Rea...

CTBG: The only way you can pull off something like this is if its the last leg of your return trip (i.e., if you were returning back to STT), then you could throw away the SJU-STT leg of your trip. Otherwise, I agree with the others here that the airline will likely cancel the rest of your itinerary...

We did a similar itinerary in 2009, staying on Anegada for two nights. Stayed at Neptune's Treasure. Definitely worth it. But I don't think you can get to Anegada the same day as you arrive in STT, unless you arrive really early. I think you'll have to "ferry connect" through Roadtown. We ...

Re: Newark Airport Parking Advice

Any advice on where to park in Newark? Nancy: Except for when I get dropped off/picked up at EWR by a family member or friend, I've had great experiences using ABC Parking, on North Avenue in Elizabeth. About a mile from NJ Turnpike Exit 13A. Their vans run very frequently to & from EWR. Return...

I concur that staying almost anywhere on STJ is fine, but our favorite was Spellbound. Views are to-die-for.

My wife & I did CR several years ago. Arrived/departed in San Jose. Rented a car, then did Arenal, Tamarindo, and Jaco. Flora & fauna amazing. Roads horrible. But would do it again. Last month, my daughter celebrated her 30th b-day by spending a week there w/ friends. Did some sort of combo ...

Our first was June 1975, our honeymoon. Friends had suggested a Caribbean cruise, so we flew down to Miami on National Airlines (remember them?) Took the Norwegian/Caribbean ship Skyward (small by today's standards) to Cape Haitian (Haiti), San Juan PR, STT, and Puerto Plata DR. Being that off-shore...

Did a week in CR a few years ago. Flew in to San Jose, then did a rental to La Fortuna (and the amazing Arenal volcano), Tamarindo beach, Jaco beach, and back to San Jose. With its natural beauty & diversity, I'd agree that CR is very appealing. But from what I understand, the government is slow...

Some related thoughts. 1. Years back, Richie told me that he was involved in another seafood restaurant venture in northwestern NJ. We dined there once. Chesapeake Seafood, I think. Since closed. 2. While on Trunk Bay in the 90's, my mother-in-law (as m-i-l's can only do) struck up a conversation wi...

My 1st visit to STJ in 1994 included dinner at Lime Inn. Been there many times since then. Rich is just a great guy.

IMO, not having Lime Inn in STJ is comparable to not having Rick's in Casablanca.

Years ago, my family took a day sail w/ Big Beard's Adventure Tours to Buck Island. The first half was OK, although I had seen similar sea life before at STJ. But when the cat went out over to the reef, it was something else. Big cudas, but even more impressive lobsters. Those bugs were HUGE! (Remin...

I have option of either Asbury Park, or Harvey Cedars.

AP is rougher, but I attended the Harvey Cedars show last year, and came away w/ the impression that most of the vacationers there didn't give a damn about who/what was playing.

So might do The Saint this year.
