I think Jim hit on a valid point. Probably the best camera I ever had was a Canon AE1, which was a film SLR camera I probably got in the late 70's or early 80's. Once I went digital I was NOT happy w/ anything until I got my first Canon. Then the transition to the G11 was simple for me as the contro...

Lysa...here is a link to my flickr account of my last trip to St John. All above ground photos (Dec'09) were taken with the G11. I didn't load all macros but there are a few to view. Also wanted to comment on your 4th point in that the size of the G11 is very comfortable for me...not anywhere as bul...

I am yet another Canon gal. My older point and shoot is a SD600 w/ underwater housing. For last Dec. trip I bought a Canon G11, and LOVE it. Kind of gives you the best of both options in that it can be operated fully automatically or fully manually. It is not a SLR but has a pretty nice lens. I am h...

First off Minde congrats on the new home! We bought our 'forever' home about 14 years ago. It was in poor shape altho it was only about 15 years old at that time. It had been neglected and abused. Open houses were held regularly and half of the town came thru declaring it beyond what any of them car...

My experience w/ the usage of batteries is thru my sister who had a Canon point & shoot. We were vacationing together and she needed to buy more batteries than seemed normal to me. So if you buy the extras then must carry them along w/ you...additional weight that I wouldn't want, so I never bou...

I also have the Canon g11 and LOVE it. I paid $500 for it last Nov. and recently saw Best Buy had it on sale for $450, so thats pretty close to your budget. I have other Canon's and prefer them over other makes in that price range...you can go w/ manual settings or fully automatic. Something to cons...

My BIL and SIL are air traffic controllers. One is in the tower at Charlotte, the other is at an in-flight center in Hampton, GA. Visitors are allowed in the tower/control room with a controller. My take? I think the chances of something happening were nil, but I think that JFK has a supervisory pr...
