Iowaguy, the town is small and we felt very safe there. We were told by our neighbors who own their condo that no building can be more than four stories high. Good restaurants. We had dinner at a place called La Lunita the night we got there and liked it so much we ate there two more times. It's rig...

Akumal, Mexico Trip Report

We spent a week in Akumal, Mexico from February 14-21. Akumal is on the Yucatan coast about 60 miles south of Cancun. It was our first time there. We were told about Akumal by a guy we met while walking our dog. We checked into it and decided to try it. We had been looking for a place that's fairly ...

cptnkirk,

There are 4wd trails in Kauai, but a lot of the interior is inaccessible either by 4wd or on foot. The only way to see the whole island is by helicopter, which is an unforgettable experience, but kind of pricey.

Here is a pic of Brown Bay. When we were there the best snorkeling was on the left. There was a steady, strong, outflowing current on the right, so watch out for that. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/22826825@N05/3300326738/" title="Brown Bay by TeddySalad, on Flickr"><img ...

My wife's cousin spent quite a bit of time in St. Thomas and St. John. I think his ex-wife still lives on St. Thomas. He told us about St. John. We came in January 2001 for our 8th anniversary and then again in 2008 for our 15th. Can't remember how I found the Forum. Was probably surfing around and ...

Our first St. John beach was Gallows Point. I don't have any digital pix, so I stole this one from iowaguy. Thanks iowaguy! <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/22826825@N05/3275965021/" title="cruz-bay by TeddySalad, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3436...

I wish we could do carryon only. With the liquid restrictions though, there is no way. Wife has to have her lotions and potions and I don't know what all. Also hate doing laundry on vacation and have never had a lost bag.

Interesting subject Terry. We are probably 10 years or so away from retirement. We are thinking about splitting up our year between Denver where we live now, our property in Northwest Colorado which has great weather from Mid-May until Mid-October but has snowy and cold winters, and someplace warm i...

I believe Lulu is referring to Chester A. Arthur who succeeded Garfield and did in fact take the oath of office twice. Once in New York, where he was when Garfield died, and again in D. C. when he arrived there.

By the way, Arthur had no vice president.

San Francisco Trip Report

We spent 4 nights in San Francisco this past weekend. We flew in on Friday afternoon and left Tuesday afternoon. We stayed in an apartment on Nob Hill I found on vrbo.com that was in a great location and had a fantastic view. It was an older place and had its quirks, but also its charms. We would st...

Laura, if you are avid hikers you have to go to Kauai. A week is probably too short (chicagoans would agree I'm sure). 10 days is better. Two weeks would be better still.

When I was a kid we had a white Angora cat that the whole family loved. We lost her when she went into the fan belt bay of my Dad's pickup and he started it up.

None of our 3 cats ever go outside.

We usually don't do luxury accomodations, but on our honeymoon in Cozumel 16 years ago we stayed at the Presidente and it was top-notch. Since we only spent $45 on our wedding, we decided to splurge on the honeymoon. Cozumel was much nicer then (fewer cruise ships, people, traffic) than now by the w...
