Re: Frozen Meats

Knolmom, 3 days of food won't cut it for a 2 week trip... I did bring butter, and it was a good move. Bacon will not stay frozen, but it will be cold enough in a Polar Bear Cooler. I got the Polar Bear Cooler tip from this forum, and it was an EXCELLENT suggestion. I do like your OJ idea...as long a...

Re: car rental ? St thomas or St John

I originally had a car rented in STT. Changed my mind, and rented on STJ. I did not rent for the full 15 days we were there, BUT, I want to try our next trip WITHOUT a car. We loved Cinnamon Bay campground, and figured what would we want to leave! Taxis are readily available, and I am going to try t...

Re: Do you need mosquito netting over beds?

My wife bought me netting as a birthday present before our trip in Nov. I couldn;t believe she wasted the money on netting!!!! Needless to say, it did not make the cut for Carry-on only! Not once did I ever wish I had netting.

Re: Carry on Only Tips?

We did a 15 day trip in Nov. with Carry-On only. You will buy t-shirts and other momentos. Our next trip will also be carry-on only, and we will send things ahead to where we are staying. Sunscreen, DEET spray (yes, the no-see-ums are going to eat you!), extra food items, etc. Connections is a great...

Re: Frozen Meats

Buy a Poar Bear Cooler. the 24 pack size qualifies as Carry-on. Fill the cooler all the way with meat. You won;t regret it! I had frozen steak 3 days later! Ground beef was still froaen in the middle when I cooked it 2 days into our trip. Meat was very expensive in STJ.

Re: Need rental for a few day trip

Cruz Bay Boutique Hotel....we stayed there, and it was a terrific value, and the owners were excellent and attentive. $125 included breakfast, and there is an excellent restaurant on the bottom floor.

key learnings from trip #1

We did our first trip with 2 carry-ons, a Polar Bear Cooler with meat, and a small backpack with cameras, etc. After packing clothes, I went back and took out half of what I packed. There were STILL a few items I didn't need! Rules for our next trip: 1. Take minimal clothes. 2. Send food, coffee, et...

Re: Favorite items from St John Spice

I like that Spice shirt; might have to get me one. But the one I covet most is the Beach Bar tank! :D When we got to the Beach Bar (1st stop after getting off the ferry), I needed new t-shirts to replace the long sleeve cotton shirt, as it was chilly when I left CT. I wore the Beach Bar sleeveless ...

Re: Accomodations on STJ for one night?

Hi - We will make our second visit to STJ this summer with our family (end of July). Our villa rental is from Saturday till following Monday. I would like to possibly fly out on Friday and stay for one night on STJ before going to our rental. We are a family of four with two adults and two children...
