Ready for November 18

It's nice to see that September 18 on the calendar - we head back to St. John on November 18. This year we have 3 houses and 24 people going for a Thanksgiving trip - 15 first timers. What was I thinking? I pulled together something for first timers to deal with all of the questions I've been gettin...

Ya, I've seen this handled differently by airline. In Dulles airport I've always been fine going to the domestic check-in.

I've check 5 gallon kegs as luggage as recently as June. They had to be empty and unpressurized; the security folks made me take the lid off. If you don't want them to put the luggage sticker directly on the side of the keg you will need to pack them in something. The adhesive will likely leave a ma...

Iguanas good, blood bad. Sounds like an awesome house and setting! I am going to have to check this out. In 2002 we had a friend break a stemmed wine glass while washing dishes and earn herself 10 or so sutures. It worked out pretty well for her. She ignored the now swim rules... no long term proble...

Hmmm, I plan on packing all of my clothes, my fins and my snorkel mask & snorkel in my backpack - I guess I am an under packer? :D Love your report thus far and can't wait to hear more!! I do a knapsack and share half of a snorkel bag. I manage to get my daughters to pack the same way. Easier t...

In another context (bringing wine and beer back from Europe) we have been discussing this subject. The consensus has been that shipping bottles in your luggage works great, if you can live with the very occasional bottle failure. Putting bottles in zip lock bags does not contain the damage. The seco...

We take the ferry from CA when we can. The ride to Red Hook is not very relaxing. We have uses private taxi services, but they are about the same price as a VI Taxi Assocation ride. If you are traveling with less than a full load the VI Taxi may make some stops on the way to Red Hook. On reduced CA ...

Pool is a must when we have a group. One on the same level as the kitchen with stairs rathern than a ladder.

Hot tub is a bonus, but ranks at the bottom of priorities.

I'm always sad to see complaints about Conrad Sutton. I've used him since 1997 at least once a year with nothing but great service. We have six cars reserved with him for Thanksgiving week. One time one of our vehicles had a rear taillight crunched in a wall meets car incident at the villa. We told ...

I still haven't gotten over to Parrot Bay. The Tektite Snorkel has been on my list since 1997.

Hopefully catch Inner Visions.

Walk down Ditleff Point again before they build houses.

7:55AM out of STT sounds painful - as in spend the night on St. Thomas painful. American changed our flights for free when I called after they changed our flight times. You might want to take a look at that if you really want to spend your last night on St. John.

New (to me) St. John Rental Villas

I was taking a look at properties for a 2007 rental and it was interesting to see so many new (to me) properties coming up. Bongo Bongo has gotten a lot of notice because of their painfully confessional construction blog, but there's a lot more out there. I was surprised what I found with a cursory ...
