Re: September trip to Chesapeake Bay area
I suspect my opinion on certain controversial "cultural" symbols got my first reply pulled so I have omitted that section in this revised response - As I mentioned, my step-brother and sister live in Richmond and we have made a similar trip a couple of times. the bridge/tunnel is pretty in...

You are killing me with those food pictures! Especially the cracked conch and the soft shell crab. We need to add Waterfront Bistro to our lunch rotation.
Good to hear that Ted does a great in-villa meal, that gives me hope for our next trip.

Re: Food ideas for villa
There was a period of a couple of years were I needed to meal plan for the grandparents and our son, who preferred to dine in every evening. Everything I brought for them had to work over more than one meal, basically whatever was on the menu for dinner was cooked in volume to provided lunch the nex...

Re: Private Property
holy crap! are you kidding me? This happened to us at our vacation house. We were at the local bar (in the town of our vacation house) and struck up a conversation with someone. Short version of the story is he tells us how much he likes our house, describing details he only could have known from b...

Re: Extra Adult Charge?
late to the party but we were not charged for our 9yo son in July, glad you got it sorted out. We stayed there on our way to STJ, it was a good way to break up a brutal travel day. The restaurant down at the Morningstar section is very good. The little market in the resort section is surprisingly we...

Re: 10 more days in paradise, final
As far as the changes go, yes, there is a difference. This is just my personal opinion, but all of the changes I noticed are positive ones. Better food at the restaurants. More staff around in general. People working at the resort seem happier than they used to. I am not sure why. I know not everyo...

Re: Private taxi from airport to red hook
I also agree that a private taxi is better for a group, cheaper and more fun/relaxing. We use - http://www.christaxiandlimoservice.com/ I'll add that it is worthwhile to consider a private water taxi as well. Depending on your group's baggage (as with the private van, the rate is all-inclusive), it ...

Oh! The blackened shrimp app from Shipwreck! One of my FAVORITES!!!!!!! Mine too! We were on VG feb 10-20 and saw a pair of puffer fish as well. They kept a close eye on us, like they didn't appreciate our presence, now I know why :) I hear you on your Reuben sorrow, that's how I am about the lime ...

Re: 10 more days in paradise, part one
What a nice way to enjoy my coffee this cold Saturday morning, a liamsaunt trip report! It took us 20 years but we finally ate at the Estate House in July when on our anniversary trip. Like you, we really enjoyed it. I loved having cpwine on the patio before hand as well. We would have gone back but...

Re: STT recomnendations for one night
We stayed at the Marriott on the way to Caneel in June. We stayed in the regular hotel tower and the room was fine for a short stay but was in need of a refresh. I wish we would have stayed down on the beach in the Morning Star area but overall, it was a nice stay. The grounds are very pretty and th...

Re: What do you pack in your cooler for villa meals& snack?
My one personalization on that technique is to tape a note to the front door that says, "DON'T FORGET THE MEAT." When excited and in a hurry at 4 am, it could get overlooked. After all it is not sitting on the living room floor with the suitcases and dive equipment. They've been sitting i...

Re: What do you pack in your cooler for villa meals& snack?
ncsusan, I like the way you roll! Every trip we talk about how we should enjoy the villas more at night but When it comes down to brass tacks, no one will participate in planning ahead so we end up going out every night. The rest of the group gets it in their head that we will cook and set out to th...

Re: What do you pack in your cooler for villa meals& snack?
I was just thinking that too jmq! To each their own, but I never go to the trouble of taking food with me. Our villa is stocked with coffee and homemade granola so we are set for breakfast, and typically eat a late lunch out, and then I'm perfectly content to have PBJ for supper. After all, I'm on ...
