You are in luck, weather permitting and if you have an unobstructed view of the Southern horizon. May and early June are the best times of the year for viewing the Southern Cross without having to get up in the middle of the night. The first week in June if you look directly South as it's getting da...

Tulum or Akumal would make a nice day trip. Tulum is about 80 miles south of Cancun. Akumal is about 60 miles south of Cancun. I wouldn't try to do both in the same day, but taking a day for each if you have the time would be my recommendation. Playa Del Carmen is closer, but is quickly becoming ano...

Hi Sailorgirl, My wife and I have been to Kauai 3 times and we are seriously thinking about going back next winter for 2 weeks. I can't give you advice on the other islands from personal experience, but I know that they all have their strong points. My advice would be to take more than a week for yo...

Personally I wish it was DST year round. I don't care if it's dark in the morning. I'm an early riser anyway and have to drive eastward in the morning to get to work so I like getting to work before sunrise. I also like having daylight when I get home so I can walk the dogs without breaking an ankle...

Teddy's putting on his astronomer hat here. Looks like you have two choices. Moonrise on St. John on March 29th (full moon) is at 6:18 PM. However, sunset is at 6:32 PM so the sun will still be up when the moon is rising. That might be what you're looking for, a moonrise then a sunset 14 minutes la...

Interesting topic Terry. 1. Do you want one home or a main stay and a retirement home? Kind of complicated for us. We have a home in Denver, and also family property about 200 miles west of Denver. I would like to live at the family property from April thru November (winters are brutal there, but su...

I think I can answer the trash question. It goes to a landfill on St. Thomas according to the Mixology Warehouse owner.

Looks like so far the consensus here is for reform of the MJ laws. I read where a judge in Centennial said "No one knows what the law is right now". Excuse me, a judge doesn't know what the law is? That tells me the laws are way too convoluted. Something most people don't know is that Will...

Gina,

You described Yal-ku very well.

Here is a link to my trip report from last year. Not sure when I'll get around to posting a TR from the next trip. It would probably be pretty similar anyway.

Thanks for the TR. We were in Akumal last February for a week and liked it so much that we're going back in 2 1/2 weeks. We're lucky that we can get a direct flight to Cancun.

We found a great condo on Half Moon Bay. Yal-ku is pretty cool.

I should have clarified "off the beaten path". These are places which are probably going to be less crowded than the usual Old Faithful-Mammoth-Lower Falls type places.

No walking required. :)

Cindy and Randy have made good suggestions. I agree with Randy about Teton NP being superior to Yellowstone for pure scenery. Of course, the geothermal features of Yellowstone are otherworldly and are not to be missed. Nine days sounds good. If you want to take a couple of trips off the beaten track...
