Re: Time to start this year's Christmas goodies thread
Thanks Minde, I don't leave until Thursday and I am SO ready to go!! Those Lime in the Coconut cookies sound right up my alley. I'll have to have a few of those adult beverages next week to do some research and then try baking the cookies when I get back. You'll love the caramel recipe. I use it to ...

Re: Time to start this year's Christmas goodies thread
I think anyone submitting a recipe should get a trip to the island so that we can all compare the final products. Now, if we could just find a rich benefactor who has a sweet tooth......

Re: Lovango kayak trip question
For the full day trip you leave from the beach to the right side of the ferry dock opposite STJ spice, then you kayak to Honeymoon and swim/snorkel there for a while, then out to Henley Cay, then on to Lovango and from there back to Cruz Bay. Here's a link to the website.....check out the lunch!! ht...

Time to start this year's Christmas goodies thread
I'm about to start my annual Christmas cookie frenzy and thanks to Minde I realized that I hadn't started up my annual baking thread yet. It doesn't have to be just Christmas cookies....let's open it up to any holiday sweet treat this time. I'll start off by posting a caramel recipe that I've used t...

Re: Ditleff Point Snorkeling
If the gate is closed you can also get there by swimming from Klein Bay beach, but it's a pretty good haul from there. The snorkeling isn't bad though once you swim over so that you're going parallel to Ditleff. Klein is a rocky beach though so I usually will wear water shoes until the water is deep...

Re: Lovango kayak trip question
Thanks PA girl - That's exactly what I needed to know. Pia - No problem. As you can see we're still hashing it out. Hahahahaha Minde!!! This year I have to do all my baking in November and will be freezing them after they're baked instead of before. I never even considered the church deal when we bo...

Lovango kayak trip question
Has anyone done the Arawak kayak excursion that goes to Honeymoon, Henley Cay and then on to Lovango? I'll be on the island in December with four other women friends and we're looking at doing that trip. We're in our 50's and 60's, not fitness nuts but we do pretty good for our age. Just wondering i...

Re: day trips
I'll be back on the island in December with a group of lady friends and we are in the process of finding a day trip that interests us. I've been to STJ 5 times in the last few years and somehow have never had a burning desire to hit Soggy Dollar. My thinking is that if I'm paying upwards of $200 for...

Re: What are you reading?
These aren't new books, but I've really gotten into the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I guess you'd call them historical fiction, but there's some romance and some time travel in there too. All I know if that I'm totally absorbed in the story and wind up reading into the wee hours. I just star...

Re: Why do you love STJ... & what does STJ mean to you
I think you hit the nail on the head about the overwhelming sense of peace in your soul. I was struggling trying to explain how a place can be such a font of spiritual healing for so many people. I'm not talking religion here, but spirituality. When you look at that turquoise water, watch a panorama...

Re: Very Belated Trip Report: May 27-June 4
Are there suckers in the Caribbean? I don't know.....but when you mentioned green I thought maybe it was a small Moray eel instead. I'm sure it didn't feel good, but what a story to tell!!

Re: Favorite Gear and Island Supplies?
We've had good luck with www.divers-supply.com . I like that they offer entire snorkel packages or you buy pieces separately. You might want to go to a local sports store to find out which style of mask fits you most comfortably and is the right size for your face and then order on line. I bought a ...

Re: 1st trip
My advice is to hang out here until you go. You will find all sorts of information about the island and will be able to have some ideas about what you would like to see or do once you get there. Don't worry too much about making all sorts of plans before you get there because "island time"...
