Re: Honeymoon/Solomon Access in October?
chrism: No problem with access. There will be someone in the security kiosk, and you simply mention that you will be going to Honeymoon. Caneel proper will be closed, so follow the signs, and proceed directly to and from Honeymoon. My memory is that the facilities at Honeymoon remained open as well....

Re: Sand In The Jeep
KidLiggy has it right, but for the record, that is E-C (as in Enighed-Contant) Gas and Service Station, not the newer Racetrack. As it happens, certain (unnamed) villas provide Shop-Vacs and 50 foot power cords for their guests. Just saying

Or sea grapes... plus 70% of Americans are deficient in Vitamin D, which your skin makes abundantly in response to the UV in sunlight - unless you are wearing sunscreen.

Re: St. John as a solo female
FWIW, one of our daughters spent a month on St. John, tent camping at Cinnamon Bay and up on an undeveloped property of ours on Mamie Peak, and she routinely used hitching to get around. She was totally cool with it, and more remarkably, both I and my wife were as well. That's not to say that St. Jo...

America Hill Hike, Ruins, & View
It was only this year that I finally got around to hiking up to the ruins on America Hill. If anyone reading this hasn't yet done so, it belongs on your to-do list. This is a pretty short hike, albeit steep at the beginning, and delivers a spectacular view from beside the ruin out over Maho and Fran...

Re: Cinnamon Bay Kayak questions
All good advice above. I too used a SUP to get to Whistling Cay; this was back in September, when I put in and out at Maho Bay. That was a bit of an aggressive paddle, especially on the way back, as the wind funnels down through that low spot above Francis Bay. I didn't check the snorkeling at the C...

Maho a Maho
Years ago, savoring a Big G at Joe's Rum Hut, I was struck by the gorgeous yellow flowers in the trees along the Cruz Bay beach. My server had no idea what those trees were, nor did I at the time, but I looked them up. Mahos, every one. We spent a number of pleasant days at Maho Bay during this visi...

Re: Update on grocery prices
FWIW, the rib-eye sale that went on for several weeks is over, and they have reverted to their more usual $15.99/lb.
Big swells and rough surf on the North Shore this week, with Trunk Bay closures, and even waves at Maho.
All the best,
Kevin

Update on grocery prices
From a post of mine regarding food prices on St. John on a TA forum: I stand corrected on the price of rib-eyes at Starfish; we stopped by this evening, and the sale circular (well worth checking; on the right just as you come into the store) had awesome-looking rib-eyes on sale for a remarkable $8....

Re: Has anyone tried
We joined a forum member ("CHM") to round out some empty seats on a Copeland boat charter a few months ago, and had a great time. It ended up being just that couple (some expected friends pulled out), myself, my wife, and older daughter. We cleared in Soper's Hole, went first to a nice sno...

Re: Cinnamon Bay day parking just nearly tripled!
pmk: While the eco-tents are still under construction, we saw a number of canvas tent campers, and the concrete "cottages" had a number of occupants. The original parking lot still has most of the spots on the north side dedicated to campers, and they were mostly full (but that is only abo...

weather.vi!!
All: I (and a talented web programmer) have been beavering away for quite a while now on a really cool (if may I say so myself) new weather site for the VI: www.weather.vi. With most of the bugs vanquished, I decided to launch the site last night, having just arrived on island the night before. I ho...
