Actually, the wifi was super helpful last year pre-hurricane as it helped us assess how close Earl was in almost real time (instead of sporadic weather channel updates) and made it easier to get off the island and into a big hotel on St Thomas. Wish August wasn't our only choice of months to travel ...

Hurricane this August?

Let's hope not since I just bought our tickets for the first week! We went through Earl last year, but it was the very end of August. Hopefully we will not revisit that adventure. Great deal on airfare - $300 R/T from Los Angeles. Now to find a villa with full A/C and on the Cruz Bay side. Have stay...

Just got back from our trip with our 11 month old. Just a few tips from our trip. We did not take a stroller, but did have an Ergo baby carrier. We only used it at the airport in Los Angeles on arrival to get all bags, etc in one place. The majority of the time we held him or in our case he is walki...

We are on STT now after evacuating STJ due to Earl. Yesterday at the Wyndham was no fun. Curfewed in rooms at 2 pm. No alcohol service due to storm. Given a sandwich, fruit, big jug of water and a rain poncho in a rations kit. No other food until 9:30 pm when everyone else was also trying to get int...

OK trying to make decision now. Can anyone give me an idea of a time frame for how long it would be until the ferry/airport are functioning again if we hunker down on STJ? Considering this size storm, etc. And can anyone give me a reccomendation for a safe hotel (or the safest)on STT to be in the st...

Thanks for all the great advice. Will be monitoring the storm closely today and getting the villa ready I guess. Maybe thinking of leaving for STT tomorrow and getting a hotel for the night? Not sure though. Will try to contact villa company later for advice. We have trip insurance so I guess that m...

Worry about Earl?

Set to leave the island on Tues. afternoon. Tropical watch only now. Any cause to worry or change plans early? I am on the wait and see side, but we are traveling with our 11 month old. Any more experienced viewpoints welcome. Very beautiful here today!

Night snorkeling?

How does one go about this and is it a good idea? This will be our 4th trip to STJ and I have wanted to do it ever since I read a post about it on here which I am now having trouble finding. Hubby is not so keen on the idea and has thwarted my plans the last 3 times, but this time I really want to t...
