Re: Mooies?
Mooie’s is the oldest bar on the island. Mr. Theovald E. “Mooie” Moorehead, opened it in 1956. Mr. Theovald was the first senator for St. John USVI and served for 16 years—8 consecutive terms. Mr. Theovald spoke for the rights of native land owners when there was a proposal to “condemn” St. John and...

Re: Villa Help - sunsets!
If it is sunsets you want, Sunset Ridge Villas has them. It is not as private as a single villa but there are only 6 of them. Depending on the week, many residents congregate at the pool for sunsets then go their separate ways at other times. They are perfect for two couples, since there are two bui...

Re: Where have you stayed?
Our best friends dragged us down to STJ in 1997 before our daughter started college. They had purchased a timeshare at Sunset Ridge Villas above the Westin and above what is now Sirenusa. It was small, only six units and for a timeshare it was intimate with great views to the west. As with most pare...

Re: A Long Air Travel Rant
You should have plenty of time to sort your way through the jumble of San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. It is being expanded and is currently quite a bit larger than it used to be. You may want to give Southwest a call and ask for directions from your arrival gate to Seaborne's. Based...

Re: A Long Air Travel Rant
We have already decided that next year we will drive to our daughter and son-in-law's in DC and fly direct from either Reagan or Dulles. We can leave our car safely with them and they will have an extra vehicle. Rick, why do you drive all the way up to Boston or NY to catch a flight? I am almost afr...

A Long Air Travel Rant
Like most people, I can easily tell you what is wrong with something but I have no idea how to fix it. In this case, I am talking about air travel. I have begun to write this in a room at the Hampton Inn near the airport in San Juan. This is not where I intended to be this morning. My intentions had...

Re: 10 more days..now what?
We are 11 days out. Thanks for helping us improve our check list. I have to add to it pestering United to see if they can shorten our layover in PR. We made reservations in July and they changed them in January so we now have a 6 hour layover.

Re: For fish ID lovers
We have stopped dragging our Humann/DeLoach book with us for the past few years. Someone gave us a small water proof book for basic ids. Then we search through these two websites that we found: http://reefguide.org/carib/index_all.html http://www.snorkelstj.com/ I bring a notebook, write down the da...

What Happened?
What happened to Gerald Singer's websites like his Beach Guide and his blog? Rather than drag my copy of "Off the Beaten Path" with me, I relied on the websites when I was on island. I noticed that the Trail Bandit's site is off line too. Have things moved or is everything a phone app now?...

Re: I LOVE Cruzan Rum, but...
We also use it to add a little depth to our black bean soup. It doesn't take much but adds so much with little bit of lime juice.
Also, as others have noted, it makes for a great floater, even on a rum punch.

Re: New video
Go through Cimmaron St. John. They are our property managers now. The place is totally in the hands of the homeowners association and with Cimmaron's help we are planning on keeping place as nice as we can. Below is the link for unit A but I am sure you can navigate your way around to find the other...

New video
A new promo video for our little timeshare on Sunset Ridge just got posted. It has some nice aerial footage from Steve Simonsen showing the southwest of the island. Not to beat our chests too hard but the drone shots were too cool not to share. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdD-v20EU0g&feature...

Arrival rituals
I am sure that frequent visitors like us have an arrival ritual they usually follow. We have several depending on whether we arrive on a Friday or a Saturday. Our Friday ritual involves getting picked up at the airport by Ronnie Lockwood and driven to the Crystal Palace in Charlotte Amalie. Ronnie i...

Re: Cruz Views question
We have a unit at Sunset Ridge just above Cruz Views and have walked into town past it. It is walkable to town but like the other posters mentioned, it is steep coming back. There are no sidewalks on the short part of the Centerline you must walk, so caution is advised. We are in our 60's and walk i...

Re: How about Haulover North?
Haulover North is also one of our favorites but as others have said you must pick your day with care. Entry on the north-side is almost if not slightly to the right of where the trail comes out onto the beach. This is the safest spot to enter. It is a cobble beach so care should be taken when enteri...
