We are novice snorkelers, but we were really psyched to do Waterlemon Cay. We hiked along further to shorten the swim, but we probably wouldn't do that again. There seemed to be a lot of diversity, both in sea life and habitat in a relatively small area. We had no issues with a current. We did stop ...

From the images I've looked up, I'm going to say they were probably moon jellyfish. As I said, they were approximately 1 1/2-2" in diameter. They were definitely bigger than the tip of a finger. Wiki says they drift with the currents even when swimming, which was consistent with what I saw.

Help Identifying a Sea Creature

My wife and I were snorkeling around the point between Salomon and Honeymoon Beaches last week. There were these creatures floating in the water that I initially thought were jellyfish. They were almost perfectly clear and about 2" in diameter. I didn't notice any tentacles, but it was hard to ...

How about those black spiny sea urchins? Are they an issue getting into the water at the blue cobblestone beach?

a few questions

This is our second trip to St. john, and we just love it. we are still discovering new things, and I had a few questions. Obviously, the dengue fever issue is a concern. I bought a "natural" repellant and a Skin-so-soft based repellant. Aside from Earl, it does not appear that there has be...

Is it possible to take a charter if there are only two of you? The cost of chartering a boat for just the two of us would be a bit out of our price range.

Holy crap, I'm so proud of myself. My wife and i were there in November. It was completely deserted. The ride there was crazy, we were wondering if this could possibly be right. We were nervous about snorkeling, because we are inexperienced and all alone. We saw what we believe was a barracuda. It w...

As a St. John novice, I get frustrated when the TGIF pic is not labeled. Guessing is fun, I guess, but it seems like y'all are really good at identifying the pix. This pic seems like a south east shore beach such as Salt Pond or Lameshur.Am I close?

Re: Roundabout du'jour - almost done

This is from a few days ago. I am a little worried that there seem to be no curbs - it looks like you can just drive across the circle if you want! <img src="/images/almost-done.png"> They put in a larger, more traditional roundabout in my area with full curbing, etc. It was open, but not...

As an avid cyclist, St. John did not seem bicycle friendly to me. Roads are narrow and steep, not in the best shape and no shoulders. I wouldn't want to do it on a bike I wasn't familiar with. Perhaps a local gym might have a spin bike?

After our greeter helped us get our Jeep, she suggested we stop at Dolphin Market to pick up a few things. She showed us where to park and waited patiently while we shopped before leading us to our villa.
