Renting a car is expensive, Rick's advice is good when staying in cruze bay, that saves you 2 days..Being able to explore st. john requires a jeep--I really think you'll be glad you did...

I really enjoyed your report!! We seem to share the same nightmare it's called air travel....The price goes up and the service goes down!! Hoping to down there this winter with our granddaughter for her first adventure.

about 4 wks ago we booked one way tickets at the last minute....$150.00 non-stop from ewr!!! crazy crazy!! delta.

we love vies ..the beach is nice for swimming, there was a floating bar there a few weeks ago when we were there ,but the snorkling is better elsewhere..yes there is shade if you get early in the seagrapes to the far left.. have fun! even the ride out is breathtaking!

i remember about 25 yrs ago being shown this place with a caveat..."this is kinda of a locals beach and if i came back and there were already someone there, to come back some other time". The more the people the less the paradise is often true.

I think you have to rent a car to explore st. john..otherwise you wind up a cruise ship visitor..imo cruz bay was never the reason to go to this beautiful place. car rentals are not cheap..go with them, share the costs and show them around.
