Villa Happy Hour

Post by mia »

Do you have a favorite drink recipe to share? We plan to spend more time at our villa this trip and I have no clue as to how to make a tropical or exotic drink in the blender. I CAN make a great Grey Goose
martini though

Call me crazy but I make a rum manhattan. It all happened at our last STJ vacation where we all know the rum flows much more affordably than vodka. I now consider myself a former vodka drinker and a convert to rum. I pour a spiced rum or a dark rum such as cruzan over ice and add sweet vermouth as well as some bitters...strain into an up glass or drink on the rocks...can also add a cherry if you want to follow the manhattan rule . I love them and just last PM ordered one for a cocktail pre- dinner at a bay front restaurant here at the Jersey shore...mmmmm good! My idea of a rum cocktail! :D

I know there are plenty of great recipes out there using fresh fruit and fresh juice. But, all I do is buy a can of frozen Daquiri mix, or maybe Margarita, and throw it in the blender with lots of rum and ice. Just mix it to your taste. Float some fresh fruit on top if you want.

Painkiller

Lots of rum (I prefer Cruzan Dark, some like Pussers)
Equal parts OJ and Pineapple
a bit of Coco-Lopez

Shake with ice and topped with grated nutmeg.

MMMMMM, I want one right now!

We usually keep it simple - some flavored Cruzan Rum and coke or sprite; and slices of lime.

We let the pro's at the Beach Bar handle the heavy equipment 8)

We generally just have a glass of wine. I like painkillers, but John is allergic to rum, and I feel bad enjoying something that tastes so good that he can't drink!

I tried bushwhackers for the first time last trip and thought they were too rich and sweet.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

A few discoveries from our trips:

Tang (powdered stuff usually brought to keep hydrated) and orange rum = yummmm

Diet Coke w/ lime + coconut rum -- you put da lime in da coconut make it all better

Rum + fresh fruit of any description + a scoop of ice cream (so what its $8/.5 gallon) = delicious alcoholic milkshake ... my favorite coconut rum + whole banana + scoop of vanilla ice cream. VERY refreshing.

Enjoy by or even better IN the pool!

Mine too! I have to give props to Mr. F-F for coming up with the majority of the concoctions. He's always (stateside and islandside) our libations manager aka barslave!

Here's the link to Woody's Cocktail recipes:
http://www.woodysseafood.com/st_john_fu ... cktail.htm

That link will give you an idea of the island drinks available pretty much everywhere on STJ. I LOVE Bushwackers. The ones at Skinny Legs are not blended and knock you flat after a few.

I prefer "boat drinks" at the villa (ice cream prices be damned). They are made with the alcohol you have in the house plus some ice cream and milk and maybe a little ice. White Russian boat drinks go down like shakes and kick ass like donkeys.

Here in the States, I prefer:
~Polar Orange Dry (or another not-so-sweet orange soda)
~a generous amount of fresh lime juice (usually a quarter squeezed)
~Cruzan Coconut Rum

Refreshing! Cruzan Coconut is soooooooo much better than Parrot Bay or Malibu!

Our favorite is a BBC: Bailey's Banana Colada

You can Google the recipe.
