Porters

Post by St John Mermaids »

Can anyone fill me in on how to secure a porter at the STT airport? I'd like to use one out-going in a couple of weeks.

drive up to the curb at the airport and ask - there are usually a few there - if you really can't find one go to the baggage pickup area and find one there to come to the front for you.

Sounds simple enough. Can they "help" you through the lines faster?

Yes they can. I've always thought that they were the best $20 I've spent on these trips. They will go behind the ticket counter, in front of everyone on line, and get you bags checked and boarding passes printed. They have also brought us to the front of the Customs line, and, of course, wrangles all the bags we bring.

I agree that its a great expenditure. We always use a porter now. We often travel on Sat or Sun, and the STT airport is often a mob scene. As stated above, they take care of getting checked in and through the process. You get to go to the "head of the line", so you save a lot of time. The only time we didn't really need them was last Oct when the airport was very quiet. They have always approached us when we arrived, so I haven't had to go find one. Have a great trip!

In May when we adopted our 2nd ACC dog we used a porter for the first time . It was a Friday & the airport was crazy busy with people everywhere . We were brought to the front of the line to buy a ticket for our new addition & then escorted to customs to the front of the line . Easy & the best $20.00 spent to get thru that mess in less than 10 minutes !!!!

Great! Thanks for posting....I am wondering though....wouldn't this bother a lot of people standing in that line if you are brought to the front of the line??? Guess that's what you pay for! :D Is the $20 a fee or a tip???

The porters use a dedicated customs officer, off to one side. They only bring one group in at a time. It is fairly unobtrusive. Anyone has the option to use the porters if they choose. I think it is well worth it. If people are annoyed that they are having to stand in line, they can always get out of line and get a porter! :D

You do usually have to go through the regular TSA line, FYI. There can be a bit of a wait there, depending on how crowded the airport is. There used to be a "back door" TSA line for people using the porter system but I have not seen it in operation for a couple of years.
