of course we get the little shot of rum at the airport but should we grab at drink at the airport and can we take it on the taxi? Just looking for a toast to start the vacation!

Re: First Drink?
We usually have one person get the drink while the other gets the bags..Drinking on the taxi--no..Buy a six pack at redhook and share with other frazzled travellers I think is a good way to get a smile going.

We have purchased 4-6 beers at the baggage claim bar - they were all singles, not in a box or anything. Just had to carry them out to the car.

First moments...
Waiting for other vacationers on the plane to dis-embark.(de-plane?)
Be as patient as possible. Heat from the tarmac.... It's a long pause,
But,afterall, we're there, dude.
Grab a drink on the way.
On STJ, our first favorite painkiller was at Woody's.
Smiles-

I always have to spend time before checking in, last year had a beer(s) and meatball hero at St John Brewery, then picked up my jeep. Planning to do the same next month!

Can you still buy a drink on the car ferry? I've always been so confused by this- you can drink if you are driving but you can't take a drink if you are riding bahaha. We shared a 12 pack on the Westin ferry years ago. Everyone really enjoyed that. We've been known to also buy a really nice sipping rum at the airport and pass it around when we've gone with friends.
Re: First Drink?
There is of course the obligatory welcome rum at the airport....nice new location/set up for that we saw in November Otherwise, it's a beer while waiting for the Red Hook ferry.
My decompression starts the moment I step out of the airplane and onto the ramp and the humidity hits me and then waiting for the ferry and having a beer; looking at the water and the boats completes my nirvana moment and finds me in my happy place

Re: First Drink?
Many years ago when you got on the ferry they would come out with a very big bottle of rum and walk around pouring you shots!
Re: First Drink?
Absolutely! But on just one of them...... I believe Global Marine's "Roanoke". Fortunate to be on that one heading to St John in Dec. 2013.... not as lucky this past June. Can't recall if it was out of service then.wontongirl wrote:Can you still buy a drink on the car ferry?

Painkiller at the bar in Red Hook passenger ferry building if we have time.
It's officially vacation when we can sit at the beach bar, see the water and have a drink.. Now, if they would just replace those dreadful plastic weave chairs!

Re: First Drink?
The first drink is the shot from the Rum Lady in the airport. We always rent a car on St. Thomas and do our shopping at the Food Center in Red Hook. We purchase a cold six pack of Presidente's and enjoy a cold one on the car ferry over to St. John. However, one year we forgot to buy a bottle opener and just had to enjoy the view minus the suds.
