Have you sent in your Letter about the Mega-Marina?
Have you sent in your Letter about the Mega-Marina?
I sent off my letter to the US Army Corps of Engineers expressing my opposition to the mega-marina today. The deadline is January 31st, and this will probably be the only time that the general public --us-- will be asked for our input.
The folks at Save Coral Bay have helped make it pretty easy to send in your own comments: http://SaveCoralBay.com/army-corps-comments

If you want Coral Bay and the East End to remain a laid back ecotourism destination, your letters in opposition to the Summer's End Marina are important.
A 145 slip marina that caters to mega yachts, will require years of construction noise, and will include high end designer stores, will change the nature of not only the east side but all of St John.

This sounds like an insane idea. How likely is it to be permitted?

For an excellent and extensive overview read the three part op ed by David Silverman ending it's third part today in the Daily News.

My wife and I are both writing letters. They are based on our very different professions. She is a nurse and I am an architect. We will be critiquing the application from different points of view. Take the time to make the letter personal and thoughtful. Have several people read it over for both the concepts as well as the spelling and grammar. A "correct" letter with a good, logical argument will have a greater affect on the project than one that is not.

We didn't think it the permit would be issued by the VI CZM after 300 letters were written in opposition. We are now at the federal permit level. Write those letters. They don't need to be long and technical. Short and to the point are important also.Cantwait wrote:This sounds like an insane idea. How likely is it to be permitted?
Letters from my husband and I have been sent.

We sent two letters today. I got a nice response from Save Coral Bay. They pointed out one minor fact error. There is no proposed dredging. The driving of the piles will, however, have the same effect on the bay.

I would really hate to see the environmental and cultural impact this proposal would have on Coral Bay and ultimately the whole island of St John.
My letter is off this morning, good luck to the Save Coral Bay campaign
