8:00am Flight Home Need STT Advice

Post by ArkieLovesSTJ »

For our trip in October, our return flight leaves STT at 8:00am. We plan to check out of our villa on STJ and spend our last day and night on STT. We have to check out of our villa by 10:00 am, so we are thinking of taking 11:15 ferry to Charlotte Amalie.

Does anyone have a recommendation on where to stay within walking distance of Charlotte Amalie Ferry?

Any suggestions on restaurants on STT? We have been to STT during the day, but not at nighttime. Is it safe to walk around at night? Any areas to avoid at night?

You could spend the day in CA while having a Taxi Driver hold your luggage...do some shopping....have a late lunch at Hook Line and Sinker...have him meet you and take you to your hotel at Emerald Beach...relax at their beach and tiki bar and have a nice dinner and you are just 5 mins from the AM flight.

The aemerald Beach suggestion is spot on. No, it is not safe to walk around Charlotte Amalie at night. Even locals don't, there is a big drug problem on the island. I lived there, 2010-2011 and it is still bad. Take a taxi, if you go, and get their biz card so you can call them to pick you up.

On the dining front, when you get off the ferry from St. John, we heartedly recommend the Amalia Cafe, which is in Palm Passage, very close to the ferry dock. Passages, of which there are several, are pedestrian-only walkways that extend out from the waterfront, and are lined with restaurants and shops. Great food and vibe. We also second the notion that you stay at the Best Western Emerald Beach; all of the rooms face out onto Lindbergh Bay (aka "Emerald Beach"), which offers nice swimming, and the hotel's tiki bar, pool, and restaurant are great. As long as you have roll-along luggage, you can simply walk to the airport in the morning.

Thanks for the advice! Even though this is our 6th trip to STJ, we have spent something like 2 or 3 hours total on STT that wasn't at the airport, in Rachel's van or at the Red Hook ferry dock.

We stay at BW Emerald Beach 1 or 2 nights before heading over to STJ and our last night now. It's nothing fancy, but we love being on the beach and being able to just get on island time in the begining and not have to rush on villa departure day. We do rent our car on STT now though because of this.

I LOVE the beach bar at the Best Western. The Amish Pirate is DELICIOUS!!!! Think Lime in da' cocounut but not as heavy. It is SO good! I also like to get my Amish Pirate and go relax in the water there! Their pool is nice too.

We are not fans of their restaurant food but do like the bar food there. Their breakfast buffet is ok but the dinners don't excite us.

We have stayed at that Holiday Inn across from the CA Ferry, but it had gone way downhill the last time we stayed there.

My vote is to get off the ferry and get a taxi to BW EB and just chill out there the rest of the afternoon/evening.

Best Western Emerald Beach is a great option with a beach. The restaurant and bar there is good. We prefer the restaurants in French Town for dinner. The airport goes fast for the early flights, we get to the airport about 630 and grab a johnnycake for breakfast.
