Red Hook ferry dock to get upper deck parking
It won't impact the habits of vacationers much (other than really changing the look of the ferry area), but the parking lot at the Red Hook ferry dock has been approved to add an upper parking deck. The ramp to access the upper deck will curve around from near the car barge entrance, and the project will increase the total number of parking spots from 105 to 173. As you approach the ferry dock from the north (Rt. 38 / Red Hook Road), you now pass a very long line of cars parked along the side of the road. These are folks who live on St. Thomas, but are working for the day on St. John, and parking as they have to now really isn't all that safe or sightly. Hard to say how long it will take for the project to be completed, and the ferry area is likely to become a bit more chaotic during the process. More details are in the following links:
