Dinner first night in STJ

Post by msfcambridge »

Hi- what are some recommendations for a fantastic dinner on our first night in STJ?
We've been to Lime Inn, Morgan's Mango and Fishtrap. Any other suggestions or go with the proven?
Thxs!

You can't go wrong with Zozo's!

Our first night we like to do carry out (Uncle Joe's) since we've been traveling all day. Next week we'll getting up at 3:00 am, leave for the airport at 4:00 am arrive at STT at 1:00 pm, catch the 3:00 ferry and finally get to villa shortly before 4:00 pm. So we'll save our first night out for a great meal until the next day! :-) As someone said earlier you can never go wrong with ZoZo's.

Like the previous comment, after traveling all day we usually buy a rotisserie chicken at Starfish and pick away at on the deck of the villa. But if you still have the energy to go out, there is always La Tapa or the Waterfront Bistro.

After a day of travel, our first night is more casual and always without reservations. Past 3 first night dinners have been Joe's Rum Hut, Banana Deck and Lime Inn. We save the nicer dinners for the rest of our stay (i.e. Zozo's, La Tapa, Extra Virgin, The Terrace, Waterfront Bistro).

I'm no pro like some of the folks on here, but we also prefer a more casual first night. And for that, we go to Woody's as we always try to make it there once per trip. Never a bad experience there! We also like Lime Inn and Morgans, but if you are looking for other really good options, then Banana Deck and Cruz Bay Landing are both excellent. We are going in July and will hit all five of what I just listed.

We always have dinner at the Beach Bar! We dig our feet in the sand , put a table close to the water and look at Cruz Bay and all the boats with St. Thomas twinkling in the background so grateful to be there! Million Dollar view if you ask me. Perfect to undwind the first night!

Like many of the previous posters have said, we like to make our first dinner pretty casual. It's typically a long travel day and we like to get to our villa or condo, do a quick unpack, maybe wash off my face, drink some water and head to town for a few drinks and appetizers and start to unwind. We really enjoy Cruz bay Landing, Joe's Rum Hut and usually have our last drink at DRINK! Before heading back to our place and getting a good nights sleep.

Our first night's dinner has recently been Candi's. We stop bye and order, then hit starfish to stock up on groceries, then we return and pick up our order. Couldn't be easier! If we have enough energy after dinner we hit the beach bar for a nightcap!

We were just in St John and we love dining out at the best restaurants everywhere.

We ate at Zosos....beautiful ambiance, food just seemed overpowered with pepper.

We ate at LaTapa, very good but small portions.

Last night we ate at the Terrace. BEST dinner I had by far not only in St John but everywhere. First rate from appetizer, to salad, to entree to Dessert! Ask for Susan for your server, she's been there for 25 years and knows her wines and the menu in every detail :)

If its' the two of you, ask for the corner table for two on the railing facing the water and get a table for 6:30PM.

Enjoy!

We've been coming to STJ for a long time so have changed somewhat. Since coming from Minnesota it gets to be a LONG day of travel this year leaving the house at 3am and arriving on STJ about 7pm. We used to hit JJ's Texas Coast now Cruz Bay Landing. More recently it has been the Banana Deck for casual and simple good affordable meal. This year since it looked like rain and did not feel like being rained on during dinner as we had a larger group, we went to Vista Mare. We got there after 9 but they agreed to keep the kitchen open for our group of 8 and had a great casual dinner. Also returned there later in the trip for a encore.
