Zika

Post by fbo44 »

Just wondering about Zika...has anyone decided not to visit because of this?? We have a trip planned later this summer, but starting to think about waiting until more is understood about the virus.

No cases reported (yet) on St John. Unless you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant (imo) no worries but again just my opinion

Zika has been a pretty minor issue in the VI overall, and much less than that on St. John, with only one confirmed case. St. John just doesn't have the urban population density it takes to sustain an epidemic transmitted by Aedes aegypti, which is a house-resident mosquito.

Here is the VI Zika summary by week, through May 31st:

This stands in stark contrast to the 2014 chikungunya epidemic (link below), but even there, St. John barely showed up. Herd immunity set in pretty quickly, so the VI is over that one now, and will remain so for some time to come.

Exactly what Kevin said. No concern here at all.

The report is very helpful, look at the lab negative number comparatively!

My husband was actually tested for it since we returned. He had a ton of bites on his legs when we returned.
This week he developed a fever and was feeling run down

Dr tested for Zika and they called this morning to say it was negative.

Well, yes. Because I am actually pregnant, so, nooo way. I'm planning a trip for after the baby comes, so it wouldn't stop be otherwise.
