Hi all,
I just edited my post re outpr last trip, "951days...", to remove the link to my photos.

Today, a local island business used one of my photos in a tweet. I consider this advertising and I did not give permission for my photo to be used.
My mistake for not watermarking my photos.

If asked I would have surely allowed the use but when someone presumes it irks me.

Lesson learned.
Now to learn how to watermark [emoji6]

Wow, I'm sorry that happened. It wouldn't have even crossed my mind that someone would do that. Just out of curiosity, how did you find out? Were you following the business or did someone let you know?

I follow the business on Twitter and happened to see it this morning. I replied saying that the photo looked like mine and asked if they took it. It looks like it has since been deleted. No response from business.

Wow if it were my photo I would be flattered that someone tweeted it out. Of course if it had my family in the picture I wouldn't like that.

Do you mind saying which business it was?

Don't see the need to announce it here but if you want to know, PM me.

I sent you a PM. I remember a similar incident happening before, so I'm curious :)

Thanks for the heads up about this, mbw. I know there is debate about whether pictures that are accessible by the general public are "private property" or not. Personally, I think a company or person should have the courtesy to ask before using someone's photo. My husband has started watermarking his.

Good question, Mary Beth. There is a boat charter company located in the USVIs that is currently using a photo I took on a trip to Great Camanoe in the BVI's on their website. Even has my wife, my daughter, and her friend in it (face down snorkeling) in Lee Bay which they incorrectly reference as Cam Bay. Straight lift from my Zenfolio account which has a copywright notification on it. I only found it because I was hunting around for photos of Great Camanoe a couple of years after my visit. Oh well!

Even those of us with mediocre photo skills are sometimes surprised to see our shots around. Villa Carolina is still using this, since 2008,

and never asked... and I am fine with that.
I do understand others frustration.

It is the not asking part that bugs me. Especially from someone that lives on island. Go take your own!
I have shared photos with many businesses and friends that have asked.
