Yep my friends just posted on their Facebook page they were at the Red Hook terminal at noon and were on the barge watching the sunset (over a 6 hour wait) !!!

Well I guess that will help settle the jeep rental on St. Thomas or St. John debate, at least for the coming month or so.

This situation with the barges will most likely last for more than a month or so factoring in "island time".

The 2 barges running are the smallest we have. The Capt Vic is dedicated to running the Red Hook - St. John trip. The Island Vic is used to run large commercial vehicles (ie gas trucks) from St. John to Sub Base. It is used for cars from Red Hook - STJ if not needed for the Sub Base run.

The Capt Vic or Island Vic can break down at anytime.

If I was on vacation, I would NOT rent a vehicle on St. Thomas. Several folks are reporting 2-6 hour waits to cross on the barge.

The barge that was out of service yesterday for a USCG inspection is back in service today - so yesterday was a FUBAR but today and carnival week should be much better with the return of captain Vic.
This should offer some relief to those planning to take the car barge.
