Recycling on St. John

Post by iheartsj »

Just a reminder to visitors to the island.

I know you are committed to recycling and are accustomed to living in a location where almost everything is recycled in a co-mingled fashion.

Unfortunately on St. John we ONLY recycle aluminum cans. The recycling is done by dedicated volunteers not the government. These volunteers sort through the recycling bins to pull out the non-aluminum items They find pizza boxes, glass bottles, plastic, steel, Styrofoam, etc. These items then are redirected to the dumpsters. This is not a pleasant job.

We definitely appreciate your desire to recycle. Please remember we recycle aluminum cans ONLY. Everything else, unfortunately, goes into the trash.

Thank you.
