An interesting comparison to today's St John is this one from almost 60 years ago.

The article says $38-46/day for one of the bungalows at Caneel (that's about $400/day in 2016 dollars

Love this article. Not only are the prices amazing, (understanding, of course, that the amount was a lot back then), but the part about Caneel being run as a non-profit made me smile. Oh, if only it was still true! :D

The photos show some early transplants from the mainland-- Ron and Sarah Morrisette fishing on Congo Cay, Nancy Gibney and Doris Jadan riding horses on Caneel Beach.
