Conch Fritters

Post by mrscherry2000 »

I know Vie's is shut down and had not been frying for a while, so where are the best conch fritters on the island now?

My favorite is Shipwreck Landing. You'll get plenty of different votes for plenty of places. Have fun!

Conch Fritter Olympics.

On a trip to STJ in 2011 or 12, we made a point of trying Conch Fritters at as many places as we could until we couldn't stand to see one more order of Fritters on that particular trip. We scored each place 1 -10 with 3 of us judging (my wife won't touch a conch fritter) she has issues but that's another story!

The winner hands down was Shipwreck Landing!

Have fun on your trip, you really can't go wrong as long as you are on the rock and having fun!

St.John Bum,-
Love it.
Good clean fun!!!!
We had a conversation about tamarind fruit with a bartender at Shipwreck, and then she walked us outside to pick some fresh from the tree . She was such a delight.
I have a couple of really groovy island recipes using tamarind since then.

I have tried Shipwreck's fritters and liked their sauce, I will make sure to visit Aqua Bistro and try theirs this time around.

My favorite conch fritters are at Miss Lucy's.

I also really like the conch fritters at Caneel Bay's beach bar. They are smaller than a typical conch fritter and come with a curried banana ketchup that is really delicious.

Shipwreck Landing's are also very good. I don't think I have tried the fritters at Aqua Bistro. Next trip.

Aqua Bistro got the silver medal in the Conch Fritter Olympics. I love Miss Lucy's Ruben Fish but their fritters can be a little over cooked my taste.

If LiamsAunt recommends Cannel I'd give them a shot. From her posts she has a lot more credibility than I do when it comes to knowing good food from bad! Her food pics are to die for!

I'm no Conch expert but my vote is for Shipwreck Landings also. Maybe it is because this was the first place I ever tasted them and now I am spoiled. Can't wait to get back in March for another taste.

As a professional 16 year old conch fritter connoisseur, I'd have to say Shipwreck Landing has the best conch fritters on St. John, and possibly in all of the Virgin Islands. (I've had them in a lot of places, lol!) :)
