Packing List

Post by northerngal »

I know this has been covered many times before but when I search the forum I come up with everything but!
It's 3 degrees out and a storm on the way so I need to think about my March trip to STJ!!! we have been 5-6 times before so know the basic clothing things but it seems like I always forget the basic things! Send me the things you don't leave home without!!!

Thanks! If I have something to check off, I'm better. Otherwise, I tend to throw lots of unneeded things in there!

Don't forget long pants and long sleeve shirt or light jacket. Better for mosquito avoidance than poison.

I usually wear leggings and a long sleeve shirt under a dress and sweater/jacket when we leave home and run form the airport shuttle as we live in the blizzard state of Michigan :) That is usually more than enough warm stuff for me!

One thing I always pack that you might not think of is blister band aids. They are really, really expensive at Chelsea Drug. I also bring a tube of A+D ointment or something similar like bodyglide for the guys for days when we are hiking into beaches so they don't get bathing suit rashes from their wet swim trunks.

Also, I highly recommend rashguards. You will be protected from sunburn in the areas they cover, and you don't even have to apply sunscreen to the areas they cover. More and more people are wearing them now, you won't look strange.

+1 on the rash guards. Love mine for long snorkels and dinghy / boat days.
STJ Off The Beaten Path and Feet Fins and 4WD books
Fish ID card
Sea Gold for snorkel masks
Reusable grocery bags to avoid plastic bags; then I leave them at the villa for the next people
One jar of coconut oil: I use it as moisturizer for skin and even for hair (my hair takes a beating in the salt water all day)
Gorillapod for my camera
Backpack
A few baseball caps
Parasheet

(and to think I used to go all carry-on, before I brought my own snorkel gear!)

Chargers for your electronics are REALLY expensive at airports. I learned the hard way. I also always bring an extension cord.

That reminds me of another thing I always bring: a monster power surge protector. We plus all our chargers into it, and the laptop. There are frequent power outages and the surge protector keeps your electronics from getting fried.

We always bring clothespins - for closing snack bags, hanging wet clothes, etc

Quart and gallon size ziplocs- used for everything from keeping electronics dry to keeping ants out of of the oreos!

Small baby powder or corn starch for using on feet before getting in jeep when leaving the beach. Keeps sand out of the jeep.
Leap, and the net will appear.
