Ok, so we're now thinking about the Outer Banks this September.
2 adult couples, hoping for a pool...? Necessary...?
Oceanfront...?
Things to do...?
Grilling on the beach...?
Shopping/great local haunts...?
Jeep on the beach...?
Any help would be extremely helpful and appreciated!
Thank you, and always-
Smiles-
MJ

Jim,

It is not the Outer Banks, but look at Emerald Isle in NC. Very pretty, not crowded. Not exactly a jumping bar scene but that is not our thing.

Try looking at Rental Houses on Hatteras Island. Hatteras Realty, Outer Beaches Realty and Midgett Realty good places to start. They all have 4 color rental listing books they can send you. Oceanfront houses in Avon, Buxton or Hatteras Village will allow easy access to restaurants as well as the beach. Beautiful beaches that You can drive onto with 4 wheel drive vehicles. Easy to take a day trip via ferry over to Ocracoke Island to explore and it also has lovely beaches. The small village on Ocracoke is fun to explore on foot or by bike (rentals avail). Nice to have lunch overlooking Silver Lake there. On Hatteras Island you won't have crowded beaches like in other places like Virginia Beach or even just North at Nags Head.

Since You are looking at September I would be sure to get trip insurance. While it is a beautiful time of year to visit the OBX it is also Hurricane Season.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. We went to Topsail Island a few years ago, had a fabulous house on the beach, all four kids with us...it was amazing until Hurricane Irene decided to show up just days into the vacation and we had to evacuate. Thankfully, we had wonderful trip insurance and most, if not all, of our expenses were covered for the entire debacle. Most certainly one of the most memorable of our family vacations. :)
