Hansen Bay - Pelican Rock??

Post by SuefromMA »

Hi,
We will be on island in about 6 1/2 weeks....woohoo! We have never snorkeled Pelican Rock and are hoping to get that in this trip. During prior trips we had driven past Hansen Bay, but, never knew where to park.
We have read that there is "structured parking" with a minimal fee, which works great for us. Can anyone tells us which way to head off the beach for the best snorkeling? Also, I assume that swimming to Pelican Rock from there is doable - again, is it? And which way do we head?
Thanks so much!

You can park at the Hansen Bay campground for $2.50 per person, put your money in the honor box if you're not greeted by one of the owners.

As you face the beach Pelican Rock is to your left, you can see them sticking up out of the water. It's an easy swim to get to them, 10 minutes if you're in a hurry, maybe as many as 20 if you take your time and hug the shoreline until you get adjacent to them.

You can rent a kayak or paddleboard if you'd rather have a shorter snorkel to get there.
