Hey All,
Heading down the end of next month (4/29-5/6) with family group of 7 and, was curious of the availability of quality wine and cheese on island. I checked out Island Cork web site and they have have a decent selection of wine but, was wondering what other places on STJ have these items. I have a small collection at home but, didn't want to have to bring any bottles with us if we didn't have to. There is a great place by home that has a wonderful selection of cheese and, I'll probably bring some with me but, more interested in the wine availability and prices. Thanks for any feedback.

Your best bet for both fine wine and gourmet cheese is Island Cork or Starfish Gourmet. Be prepared to pay more than you do at home. There are much better values for your dollar on European wines. American wines are vastly overpriced on the island. I'm guessing it is a distributor issue, but am not sure.

As an FYI, Island Cork recently moved to Wharfside and expanded, and they have a much larger selection then they used to.

My husband has a fairly large wine collection with many excellent wines. He would tell you that it's not worth the trouble or expense of bringing wine from home. There are some very nice wines available, you will just pay more than at home. Consider it an inevitable vacation expense :D

Liamsaunt is correct as always. You will find a good selection of wines on island. Our last trip was for our 25th anniversary and we had a nice variety of wines for the week. We bought our wines from Starfish Gourmet and the Dolphin Market. We like sweeter wines so we had a Reisling from the Mosel Valley in Germany, a Moscato from Italy, a White Zinfandel from California and a champagne from France. Prices were more than here in the states but not terrible.

We always go to Starfish Gourmet Shop which is directly across from Starfish. It also deals with upscale gourmet cheeses, crackers, and such. It's really a nice place and worth your visit. But, as everyone else has said, it's more expensive. They got it though.

Depending on what your schedule is on getting from the airport to STJ -- you could bring a collapsible cold bag and stop by Gourmet Gallery in Crown Bay.

A fine extensive cheese selection and a very wide selection of wine in all price ranges, regions, varietals and vintages. You would not be disappointed and it won't be a bargain shopping experience but should satisfy the most discerning gourmand and oenologist.

As someone who lives here and drinks wine, well let's just say more than I should (don't judge! lol), Island Cork, hands down, is the best place to buy wine and cheese on island. Paul has a great selection of wines, meats and cheeses, and they are all at a great price point. The best part, in my opinion, is for people like me who love wine but do not know much about it, I can simply tell Paul what I'm in the mood for and he points me in the right direction. He's now located at Wharfside and there is a dedicate parking spot for his shop, so you can easily pop in and grab a few things without having to worry about parking.

Full disclosure: He's not even an advertise. I simply love that place. :)
