Cash only??

Post by SuefromMA »

Can anyone remind me of the "cash only" situations that we might come across? This would be for St. John and also Jost Van Dyke (Day trip on Kekoa).

We, of course, plan to use cash for: Taxi and tip on STT. Can't remember about the ferrys at Red Hook and Cruz Bay.

Also, I remember that Sam & Jack's only takes cash.

Any other situations would be helpful for planning purposes.

Thank you!

The website for Varlack Ventures which runs one of the ferries says "cash or travelers checks only".

Believe you'll need cash for BVI customs

We always bring more cash than we need. But, just wanted to see if anyone mentioned a place that only takes cash, that I didn't think of.
We know: Sam & Jacks, taxi's, ferry, BVI customs, parking at Hansen. I also think that someone mentioned Gertrude's on Jost. We always bring cash for housecleaning at Villa. Maybe cash if we take the golf cart service from Caneel Parking lot to Honeymoon. Am assuming that we can probably use a credit card to rent chairs, etc. at Honeymoon. Not sure about that.

I've been to Gertrude's a couple of times and paid cash both times.... awesome Chicken Roti's and make your own Painkillers! Also, although the BVI customs fees are cash only, the Interisland Ferry will accept credit cards (i.e. Visa).

Cash only places I can recall from our trip earlier this month....
1. Taxi & tip
2. Passenger ferry
3. Porter tips (ferry, airport)
4. Custom fee's for BVI trips
5. If taking a private charter to BIV, cash for captain's tip
6. Sam & Jack's
7. St. John Scoops (ice cream at the Marketplace)
8. Uncle Joes BBQ

There's probably more, but these are the ones I can think of! :)
