Gallows pool construction/destruction

Post by fbo44 »

Hey Forumites, has anyone been to Gallows lately? Was thinking of staying there in late July/early August, but am concerned about the pool renovations. I know the pool will be out of commission then (not too big of a deal), but was wondering about how much other disruption might exist? Thanks!

We’re staying in a harborside unit. We booked, knowing in advance that the pool was out of commission.

Workers arrive early … around 7am. Outside of a pile of broken concrete, the old pool facility is gone. That includes the surrounding deck, and the deck facing Pillsbury Sound. Additionally (and what we didn’t know in advance), the lower deck is also being replaced. So you can’t use the catwalk to get into the water. A few lounge chairs are available on the “beach” part, so its possible to swim out to the raft from there.

Noise-wise, it hasn’t been an issue for us on the harbor side ….but then again we’ve been mostly away at the beaches during the day. I imagine that Units 6-9 and 15 would be subject to the most construction noise, depending on what phase of the rebuilding is occurring when you’re staying here.

Sorry. Can't provide much information beyond this.

Hi John,

Could you post a photo or two of the construction? I've been dying to know how it's going. 15C is my happy place. :)

Here's my attempt at posting a pic of the pool. Workers hauled away the concrete chunks this afternoon. At least the gazebo remains.

Mbw1024 - the plans for the new pool can be found on Gallows' website.

Thanks for the pic, John. If possible, can you send a pic of the catwalk/lower deck area?

And here's a pic of the lower deck rebuilding ....

Using the catwalk is definitely out of the question.

John, thanks for the catwalk photo. Do you get the sense they are moving along at a good pace (higher than usual for typical construction down on the island)? I wonder if the the catwalk/lower deck might be available by late July or early August?

Hope you're having a great time down there!

The lower deck is scheduled to be finished within two weeks from now so the catwalk/lower deck will be available by late July/early August!

John - really appreciate the real time update and photos! We are heading down Aug 9-23 with a harbor unit. We were aware that the construction was going on, and really hope that the lower deck will be done by early August - was not looking forward to having to negotiate that rocky sandy beach to get into the water :D .
Can hardly wait...

Glad I was able to provide some helpful information to the group.

Despite not having a pool here, we're having a wonderful time. Small amount of Saharan dust, water temps are very comfortable .....

.... and we enjoyed our first Crack Bar from NS Deli today at Solomon Beach. Its as good as folks have said it is.
