Refrigerator stocking and return to this forum

Postby David- n Hampton, VA » Sat Jan 27, 2018 4:29 pm

Hi All, After a long (4-5 years) absence since I have been on this site, thought I would jump back on after all the horrible things that happened to St. John last fall. I am so pleased to read about the strong recovery efforts but know there is still a lot to be done. (I have been helping in a small way with a couple organizations but know things take time.) This will be our 9th trip, and I really hope that the island and people have recovered and doing great.

My travel plans have been put on hold since last fall. We will arrive in St John for my next trip around mid May. I am going to stay in Gallows Pointe. This time (like I have done when I stayed in several villas) I plan on having the Frig stocked so I don't have to immediately hit Star Market. In fact for the first time, plan on picking up the rental a few days AFTER I arrive. We'll see if I like that. Normally, I like the independence of going anywhere anytime I want.

I am looking for suggestions on who can provide provisions (specifically to Gallows Pointe). I have used Kati Lady in the past, but (at least by her web site) she appears to be focused on Weddings rather than provisioning. I know Christy's does it and have their grocery list. Seems pretty straight forward...I would like opinions of that service if anyone has any.

I am probably going to rent a boat, but may opt for a dingy instead. Haven't rented a dingy before, and it seems that Naughty Nymph isn't advertising anymore. Did they go out of service? Any suggestions on the best dingy rental company?

Oh, realize I haven't said "hi" to all the people here. Hi. Use to be fairly active on this site, and hope all my web acquaintances are still here and doing good.

Hi David! Nice to see you back on the forum! I cannot speak to dingy rental but we have often used the Gallows shop to provision our place and they do a great job and don't seem to charge any more than others we've used in the past. We'll be at Gallows the second half of May- maybe we'll bump into you at the new pool!

Hi David, welcome back! We rented a dinghy just once, probably around 5 years ago, through Noah's Little Arks (the owner's name was Kim). It is just down the hill from Gallows Point, next to / in front of The Beach Bar, located right on the beach. I'm not sure if they are still in business (or back in business after the hurricanes).
Have a great time at Gallows Point - sounds like this might be your first time staying there. It is the only place we have stayed on STJ (6X in the past ~8 years)...... it is our paradise! Enjoy!

Hi, David!

I've rented dinghies from Noah's on all of my trips over the past 20 years. Sadly, the only company that appears to be renting dinghies right now is Calypso. http://calypsovi.com/

I swapped notes with them a couple of weeks ago, and plan to rent from them during my April trip.

Good luck with the trip planning!
