Headline: Department of Public Works Begins Issuance of Sandbags as
Tropical Storm Maria Nears Virgin Islands

The National Weather Service is forecasting that Tropical Storm Maria will
bring heavy rains to the Virgin Islands as it passes on Saturday into Sunday
morning. Governor John P. de Jongh Jr. has directed to that the Department
of Public Works begin the issuance of sandbags.

Sandbags are available at the Department of Public Works facilities in the
St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John districts and at the Cotton Valley and
Grove Place fire stations on St. Croix, and the Tutu, Fortuna and Fort
Christian fire stations on St. Thomas. Sandbags will be issued until 5 p.m.
today and between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday.

For more information about the issuance of sandbags call the Department of
Public Works at 774-4617 on St. Thomas, 773-1290 on St. Croix and 776-6346
on St. John.
