Touching story

Post by EagleRayLover »

I know sometimes I let things touch my heart too much but I truly believe it takes a village to raise a child and that generally people are good, so I share this in case anyone feels the same and wants to join in my latest crusade. ( it's one of the reasons i was so busy on our recent vacation and very important to me because it could happen to any of us...
here are the words of a dad.....
My wife and I have two beautiful children, Greg (3) and Claire (2). Just before Greg's second birthday, I noticed that one of his eyes wasn't focusing completely forward like it should. We got a low priority appointment to see a specialist because that kind of thing is usually not serious. On the day of our appointment, we were told that our son had retinoblastoma and that we needed to go to Miami immediately to begin treatment. Our doctor was kind enough to make a sonogram of both eyes. Had I not clearly seen two tumors in one of my son's eyes, I would not have believed the diagnosis. Cutting edge therapy that involved six rounds of chemotherapy and about twenty one laser treatments helped to save his eye. Greg is now in remission.

Just before Claire's second birthday, we noticed a rash that would not go away that looked like a bunch of red dots (now we know it's called petechia) and that our daughter wa
s bruising easily, and the bruises weren't going away. Our pediatrician did some blood tests and noticed some abnormal results. Later that day, more tests were done at Holmes Regional Medical Center. That night, we were instructed to go to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando immediately. The next morning when we were told that our daughter has leukemia, I aggressively asserted other possibilities and refused to believe our second child could have a from of cancer too. I didn't budge until a kind doctor offered to show me my daughter's blood under a microscope. At that moment, I had to face the reality of the diagnosis being correct, however unlikely it might be. I hope that in two and a half years my daughter will be in remission. I hope that they live long, full, happy, cancer-free adult lives, and that I'll be a proud grandfather one day.

This day is a physics teacher in our hometown here in Florida. Our teachers pay scale is own of the lowest in all of the states. His insurance is not very sub par ( i know this because i am a health care professional and accept it and know what they pay), I spoke with him today when i took him the two tee shirts that we wanted to give to him and his wife that we are using as one of the fundraiser for the crazy medical expenses he has and will have. ( he not only wanted to pay me for the shirts, but he did not understand why people would want to help) my response was why wouldn't they- this is what people should do? if any of you feel the same way or want more info about wrist bands or t- shirts, please request to join Grasso Strong on Facebook or I can give you the Paypal account. If you aren't on Facebook I am happy to show you the graphic. if anyone feels this is inappropriate post, i am sorry- i just know thus far many people nationally have been interested in there story.
