Thanks SOOOOO much! -cheryl

Buster's Story
Buster is a two year old rooster that I found in the middle of the road in front of Miss Lucy's about 18 months ago.
He was severely injured, including the left side of his head crushed in leaving him blind in that eye. Covered with deep
wounds, bloody, and critically dehydrated he was too sick to get out of the road and was literally moments from certain death.
I brought him home and Dr. Jan our local vet told me how to take care of him and my friend Sonya told
me about "chicken diapers" and with their help Buster became my indoor pet chicken.

Buster goes with me everywhere. He rides shotgun in the car and I carry him in my purse.
Around the yard he sits on my shoulder and lets me know whenever a kestrel, pelican or frigate bird flies overhead.
I didn't like the style of "chicken diapers" already available for sale, so I made my own design
which I call his "Fancy Pants". With his fancy pants on Buster lives inside with me. He sits on my computer while I work,
mesmerized by the cursor moving about the monitor. Around 5pm he roosts on my bed.
When I go to sleep for the night I gather him up and tuck him under my left arm where he stays until I wake up the next morning.

The Sound and The Fury...
I named him Buster Keaton hoping he'd be silent. He's not...

That said, he does most his cock-a-doodle-dooing during the day and then only once or twice for a few minutes each time.
Many of the times he "doodles" it's to call me over. Yesterday he started going off and when I went to him he was
at his water bowl which was empty. I filled it up and he had a few sips and was quiet the rest of the afternoon.
If I leave the house and cannot take him with me I put him in a soundproof crate that I call "the silencer"
so he won't disturb my roommate while I'm out. I put up double blackout curtains in my bedroom because he
will doodle if he sees sunlight before I wake up. All in all, I am blessed with a rooster who keeps incredibly
reasonable hours when it comes to cock-a-doodle-dooing.

What Makes Buster's Story Special...
When I got home after finding Buster in the road, I showed him to Larry. Larry immediately called a friend who could euthanize Buster.
Larry thought there was no way Buster could survive his injuries. I simply don't have the resources to take such a severely injured
rooster to a vet and I agreed with Larry that I would probably have put put Buster out of his misery. Luckily fate was on our side that day
because our vet Dr. Jan was already scheduled to make a house call for one of our cats. I told Larry that since Dr. Jan was already
coming to the house, I'd keep Buster comfortable and if he was still alive when she got there I'd ask Dr. Jan to look at him.
Buster was still alive when Dr. Jan arrived and with her expert care she saved Buster's life that day. That was about eighteen months ago
and Buster has been my constant companion since that day. He has an incredible personality and he and I have a very unique bond.
People who know chickens attribute our unique bond to the fact that Buster knows I saved his life.

I am hoping that by showing how far and wide Buster's story has reached, it will give encouragement to everyone on STJ
who undertakes the often incredibly painful task of animal rescue.

Thank you in advance for letting me know Buster's story has brought you joy.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank YOU!!! -c
