Hi there, I did a girls get away with a friend 2 years ago to Charleston. We stayed at the Fulton Lane Inn http://www.fultonlaneinn.com/

We thought the location was great for walking since we did not rent a car. It was easy getting around on foot, a number of restaurants, shopping, the waterfront, tours, etc all within our area. We both enjoyed the Saturday (?) Farmer's/craft market too and bought a number of items there. Food was wonderful; we also did a architectural walking tour and a boat tour as well.

Loved it so much that my husband and I are going down this summer and using Charleston as a base to explore the coastal areas to see about a possible retirement area!

Hope you have fun planning; there's definitely a lot to see and do.

We enjoyed staying at the Mills House http://www.millshouse.com. Very convenient for walking to downtown shopping or down to the battery. Great restaurants on Queen Street within a short walk. We had a room with a balcony and enjoyed morning coffee and evening cocktails overlooking the street below. If you're staying for at least three nights you may want to check out the carriage houses for a unique accommodation - several can be found on VRBO. If you want to stay off the peninsula and commute, enjoy the beach at Isle of Palms or Mount Pleasant waterside at the Charleston Harbor Resort or Shem Creek Inn. The Spoleto Festival is late May into early June. Prices will be higher but there's wonderful shows and exhibits to enjoy! http://spoletousa.org Enjoy your trip!

Two Meeting Street Inn is fantastic.

Down near the battery, so a little bit of a longer walk (a few blocks as I recall) to restaurants and shopping but well worth the trade-off in my opinion.

If you stay here, request one of the rooms upstairs with semi-private access to the balcony.

We like the Andrew Pinckney Inn. The rooftop terrace has such a great view of the city for breakfast or cocktails. It is two blocks to historic Market and all shops, plus neat restaurants. Jestine's Kitchen on Meeting is a great lunch! Husk on Queen has a changing menu daily based on market; Fig on Meeting or SNOB on E. Bay are also great choices. Hope you enjoy your stay!
