Consumer Rights when Airlines change flight schedule?

Hi everyone,

A bit of advice. Delta has changed our flight so that we have an 11 hour layover and now are on a red eye flight requiring us to take an extra vacation day. Not sure if they cancelled one of the legs, but the new flight has a different flight number.

I bought the tickets from delta.com. Can I have them cancel the flight without penalty or give us a different flight?

thx.

Yes you can. If Delta makes a flight change that requires a long layover you are allowed to cancel and get a full refund. Just call them up and ask.

This happens to me every year. I go online, find the flight I want, call Delta (or American - they do it too...) and have them change me to the flight that works for me. I have never had a problem getting them to make the change as long as they are the ones who caused the problem initially.

Good Luck
John

Thank you. I cancelled the flight with full refund and have booked a different flight. I really appreciate the guidance.

Looking forward to a couple of weeks in St John this January!

Anybody have first hand experience with a time change made by the airline on a ticket already purchased, but now the new time has a lower price? If you ask, will they "re-book" you at the lower price?
