I had a smash hit with this cocktail last night. Dinner was a stressful event, because one of my deep fryers kicked the bucket in the middle of cooking--and when the menu has fried haddock, fried calamari, and fried clams for 10 people on it, that is NOT a good thing! But, this cocktail kept the masses happy--it was so good that I am freezing watermelon juice and bringing it down to St. John so I can make this cocktail there (since I remember watermelons costing about a kajillion dollars at Starfish). For each cocktail:

2 ounces gold patron
4 ounces watermelon juice (just chunk up a watermelon and blend it with a stick blender to make the juice)
3/4 ounce couintreau
juice of 1/2 lime (nuke it for 30 sec. in the microwave to get extra juice out of it)

shake over ice until very cold.

This is a frozen mango daiquiri. To make a big batch, use two cans of goya mango nectar, 6 ounces of rum (note: I used vodka so John could try some), and the juice of three limes to a freezable dish. Taste for sweetness and add a little cointreau if you like. Freeze overnight. Use a fork to scrape up the icy mix and heap into glasses.

For a lighter drink you could skip the overnight freezing part and just blend the liquid with lots of ice.

Is that a painkiller? It looks so refreshing! I need to see Ruth for more of those glasses. I bought some in June and I already only have one left!

no it's sort of your mango recipe. One can mango, 4 oz. rum, 2 oz. cointreau and ice. pretty good!

My first time to post on this thread. This is a nice summer drink, but it's a bit dangerous. It's called a Washington Apple. I've also seen it called a red apple martini.

1 part Crown Royal.
1 part Sour Apple Pucker.
2 parts cranberry juice.
Serve over ice.

I've also seen recipes that called for 1 part cranberry juice, but that makes it a bit strong for the wife. She doesn't even like whiskey, but she likes these. Another recipe calls for Cran-Apple juice which sounds good, but we haven't tried it. Last weekend we tried it with pomegranate juice instead of cranberry and both thought it was even better that way.

I noticed that Liamsaunt's original post mentioned that "non-alcholic drink recipes are welcome." I read every thread--not a non-alcoholic recipe in the bunch! Could any of you put down the rum and give me a good "kiddy cocktail" recipe for this 40-something non-drinker!

Shari - Why don't you get creative and use the recipes posted here substituting the alcohol for something with a similar flavor? Like, instead of putting in pineapple rum, for instance, substitute with pineapple juice. I bet there are some really good candidates for subtitution on this thread :D

Sometimes I substitute Brandy for Rum. Non-alcoholic? What are you trying to do, poison us? Good God, woman we could suffer long-term ill effects!

CG has a good idea, I usually add extra ice instead of the alcohol. Try some different recipes. Also do a Google search, you'll find some good ideas.

One of my favorites is Fresca w/a heavy (very heavy) splash of cranberry juice.......very refreshing!
