Sounding like a broken record here but, I have to say that Cascade was fantastic. I really struggled with the last 35 pages or so because I simply didn't want it to end. The themes in this book are ageless but the setting in the 30's adds a flavor that makes it that much more enticing.

I know it's a great book when A. I find myself unable to stop reading it at 1:00AM and B. I have "book hangover" after finishing it.

Congratulations, Maryanne. Please tell me that you are not putting your pen down. We need more from you.

Book Hangover! That is exactly it. I still have it and can not seem to find anything that looks interesting enough to read after it!

A little while ago, I spoke with my aunt in Virginia; I had sent her Cascade as a gift for her 95th birthday. Maryanne graciously signed one of her delightful "postcard" bookplates for me to add. My sprightly aunt loved the story and confessed that she too had stayed up late reading! Thank you, Maryanne!!!

Thanks again, everyone. It's wonderful to know that the book has connected with so many of you.

The People Magazine review was great for the book, but now that that a new issue is out, the book's success depends on spreading the word, so I appreciate that you are doing so !

I just finished Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures and really enjoyed it. I am really looking forward to the new Chet and Bernie novel, a Fistful of Collars. I have had it for a while, but am trying to save it for Bermuda this weekend. Now I am reading Major Pettigrew's Last Stand. I think I got that recommendation from here, am enjoying it so far.

If you like Major Pettigrew, try "Old Filth," by Jane Gardem. Brilliant.

Read this book on my way to St. John this summer. Very interesting novel within the historical background of the transfer of the VI to the US from the Danish.

"12 Patients...Life and Death at Belleview Hospital" Very good book. I'm enjoying it tremendously!

Thanks for the recommend. I did really like Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, so will add this one to the list.

My friend just finished Gardam's other one, about the same characters, The Man in the Wooden Hat, and said it was even better.

I am desperate for books for a beach trip we are taking in two days. Help!! Any ideas? This tread has been really quiet lately and I need something to pack. Thank you all, in advance.

I am reading Where'd Go Go Bernadette right now. I like it, some parts have made me laugh out loud.

I might not have the title right but something I read recently that would be a good beach read was A Walk Across France. A 50 something woman gets an urge to walk across France and she wrote about the journey (non-fiction)
