Hotel

Post by Creative Name »

My wife and I are going to bookend our trip to St. John with stays on St. Thomas. So, I'm looking for a hotel for one night at the begining and end of our trip. Suggestions? On our last trip we had a room booked at the Best Western on Emerald beach. However, because of rain we flew out a day late and never stayed there. So, that is still an option as it is close to the airport but reviews are mixed.

We are looking for something closer to the airport, $200 a night or less, on the beach if possible.

Thank you,

BW Emerald Beach still fits your parameters. I generally use them when I need a room on STT.

I am in a similar position to you, looking for a one night stay before a fairly early flight out the next am. I have looked at several options and this looks like my choice-reviews on tripadvisor are pretty positive. I found some other options further from the airport but I don't want to book something that is 8 miles away but takes 30 min. or more to drive it. Maybe someone else has another good idea for us.

Check out The Crystal Palace in Charlotte Amalie. It's a nice, historic B&B, reasonably priced, and the owner, our Forum's own Ronnie Lockhart, will provide you with transportation to the airport.

For one or two nighters we've stayed at the Emerald Beach Resort, Green Iguana, Mafolie Hotel, the Windward Passage (when it was the old Holiday Inn) and Crystal Palace. Proximity to airport wise the Emerald Beach Resort can't be beat; I don't know what the mixed reviews said but we thought the beach and pool area were very nice; the rooms were decent quality and location was perfect. We had one of the first flights out and just walked to the airport in the a.m. (obviously we travel light). Otherwise from my list each place has its pluses and minuses. Feel free to pm me if you have specific questions.
Enjoy your planning!

We have to be off of our catamaran by 11am on 10th and flight out is early on 11th. I am thinking close to airport and I like that Emerald is on the beach (at least a half day more close to the water!) but I just don't know enough about STT to make a true call. I have been there but its been 10+ years and I am sure that makes a huge difference...Anyone else got a chime in here?

I guess it depends on what you want to do for your last night in STT. If you want to go to the beach, then definitely BW Emerald Beach or maybe Island Beachcomber. Lindbergh beach is very nice, and both have beach bars to enjoy an adult beverage. The only downside is that since they are right next to the airport you get to listen to airplans landing and taking off. But they don't fly very late so it's not like you'd be listening to planes all night.

If you want to spend your last night in town, dinner and shopping, then Crystal Palace, Green Iguana, Galleon House, or Windward Passage might be what you want.

If you want a quiet evening, nice dinner and beautiful view, then try Mafolie or Island View Guest House. Both have a bar and pool to enjoy the afternoon before dinner.

So there are lots of choices depending on what you want to do. :-)
