St. Thomas, USVI, January 6, 2013 - Open Space Studios, a new yoga, dance and fitness studio, is set to open January 13, 2014 in Tillett Gardens on St. Thomas. Founders Vivienne DeMare and Abigail Jurick, owner/operator of Rhoda's Guest House also in Tillett Gardens, join forces to create a community-minded studio for the physical arts offering yoga, dance, and fitness classes in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere of respect and encouragement with a focus on service and sharing the physical arts with the community.

"The inspiration for opening a yoga studio here began with the question, 'Where can I take a good yoga class?' explains Abigail Jurick. "We market the Guest House as a 'holistic hostel.' Consequently, our guests are interested in things like yoga, sustainability, healthy food, and adventure travel. We wanted to be able to offer a broader experience to our guests here on property. Vivienne's desire to open the studio was a perfect fit with our vision for the revitalization of Tillett Gardens."

"My desire was less about opening a yoga studio, per se, than it was about creating a space where people could come to teach and learn physical arts; hence the name, Open Space Studios," says Vivienne. "I very much wanted to create a non-intimidating place for people of all ages, backgrounds, genders and experience levels to come and practice yoga, learn to dance, spin a hula hoop or take a Pilates class. We aren't tied to a single method, modality or manner of instruction. We are completely agnostic."

Once home to the Jim Tillett Gallery, the 700+ square-foot space on the ground floor beneath Goddess Salon in Tillett Gardens has been completely transformed. The studio's design focuses on creating spaciousness by bringing the outside in. Bamboo yellow and deep Caribbean blue now cover the previously monochromatic grey-on-grey walls. Natural elements like tongue and groove wood flooring and natural bamboo accents on the inside carry the "tropical zen" feel of the garden lobby through from the outside. Details like faux painted bamboo and a mural by local artist Mimi de Seda put the finishing touches on the space.

Open Space Studios officially opens for business on January 13, 2014, featuring a full schedule of yoga, dance and fitness classes, as well as limited retail offerings. Workshops and additional offerings are to be added for later in the year. In addition, the studio space will be available for rental for private events.

A grand opening celebration is planned for early February. For more information, please contact us at openspacestudiosvi@gmail.com
