last minute villa/condo help for Dec
My husband agreed to do a last minute quick get away Dec. 2-7 this year because we were able to get cheap airfare. We have been to STT & STj 3 times. We want a place to stay (not a tent!) for $100 or less a night. The only thing we want is an ocean view and the sound of the ocean would be a plus! We don't care if we stay on STT or STJ. I have been searching and searching and now my eyes are crossed so I am looking to you guys for some ideas. Thanks!

Try this page from VRBO:

Sapphire Village is right above Sapphire Beach Resort. There are several there with rates close to or $100 per night. I would bet that contacting the owners of available units at this date might get you a deal of $500 for your 5 nights. I think you will have to limit your search to St. Thomas to find that rate.

I might be able to persuade him to $125 or so a night! He saw a place for $75 at Saphire, but I have read allot of mixed reviews as far as cleanliness and other issues go. We have stayed at the same place the passt 2 times and love it but it is on the far north side of STT and being that we will only be on island for a short time I want to be closer to things and STJ.

I would think that since you will be there in 1 month that anyone with a vacancy would be willing to negotiate on price. Pick of few places that you think look desirable, even if the quoted price seems a little high and email or call the owners. I've rented at Sapphire through VRBO twice now and will again in the Winter. It's worked out very well and the location is fantastic. Stay on STT for the day or take a trip to STJ. both very easy to do.
Hi guys - I've got a couple of St John suggestions for you (personally I'd much rather stay there). Check out Serendip Condos - they advertise their studios for $120/night but you may be able to get a discount if they're not booked up. They're not fancy, but they're comfortable, clean and you get a great view of Cruz Bay. My daughter raved about the manager and they got a basket of goodies (including rum) in their unit when they checked in.
Another option on Fish Bay is Gecko House. I stayed there with a couple girlfriends a few years ago. Again, nothing fancy but clean and fantastic views of the water and the sunrise each morning. The website says $175/night but the owner is running a special until the end of the year so you may be able to get a bargain if the owner doesn't have the unit rented. The upstairs unit is small, just a studio but it has a kitchen, bathroom and king size bed. No living room, but there is a good sized deck for eating and relaxing.
Good Luck!

michigancouple - Could you give me the link or more info on where you stayed at Saphire?
Pia - we will rent a jeep (hopefully not booked!)
I am going to check out your suggestions thanks everyone! The reason we are trying to be extra frugal is we are planning on coming back w/our kids the end of March. This trip is because I have been sick since June and I am finally stronger so my husband wants to give me a little bit of the summer I lost!

Just above Serendip is Sunset Ridge for I think $150 a night. Big pool, private plunge pool and great view.

We really like it there. Being able to hear the ocean all night and walk out on the beach in the morning. Don't have to pack up a bunch of stuff to take to the beach because you're already there
