It is a complacent and UN-professional attitude with a very blase' ethic that allows this to happen.

Yep the rock has been there along time. The ferry captains cut several markers out of arrogance to save upward of a minute or two on these runs. My understanding is that the car barge has an enormous amount as in hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. Fortunately no one was injured in either crash. There was also a ferry a few years ago that hit a well marked reef south of St Thomas and was totaled.
These aren't new incidents and no one seems to learn from the past. The skipper is claiming steering failure in this incident. On a large twin engine boat this should not happen if the boat was in open water were it should have been.
