Mini Gromit has arrived!
Mini Gromit has arrived!
First of all, apologies for the delay in posting but life has been incredibly hectic.
It all started about two months ago when I began feeling, well... not so well. A trip to the Drs office turned into a trip to the hospital to be monitored closely for preeclampsia for five days. That was followed by three weeks of bed rest, which included me working from home and desperately trying to get life in order before Baby Gromit arrived.
POor Mr. Gromit had to take care of alot of the final preparations. Fortunately I am anal retentive enough that a lot of the stuff had been done in advance. Good thing huh?
Let me just say that bed rest SOUNDS like a really great idea as long as it doesn't apply to you. For me it was akin to being trapped in the airport waiting area at Cyril King Airport. Watching all the people walking by the glass headed off to their vacation and there you are stuck in limbo. Not. Happy.
After three weeks (and things being relatively stable) my body basically said, "And we're done here" so it was time to induce. I was at 38 weeks so the Doc felt like Mini Gromit had cooked long enough and would be fine joining the world. Besides if we left him in any longer my heart and kidneys were not handling the extra strain of growing a whole other person any longer.
They induced me June 6 in hopes of getting Baby Gromit out the garage door. However, after 12 hours of labor it was apparent that he was parked and had NO INTENTION of early eviction. So he came out through the window.
He was 6 lbs 4 oz and 19.5" long.
SO while the birth did not go as planned (why should it, this whole pregnancy thing was not planned!) everything turned out very well.
He was beautiful and we named him Alexander James. I've always loved the name Alexander and my Dad was named James (he passed in September 2001) so we felt this was a way to include him in Baby Gromit's life.
Certainly I had planned to be doing something VERY DIFFERENT with my life at this point. After eight years of trying to have a baby I had just given up and figured it was just not meant to be. But apparently the universe had different plans ... and a sense of humor.
So, here I am, a full fledged honest to goodness Mommy.
Many thanks to all of you who have sent so many wonderful gifts for Baby Gromit. I will try to send pics of him wearing or playing with the various items as we incorporate them into his life.
He's growing quickly and is already 20" long and 8 lbs 11 oz. He's such a good baby. He only cries when he is hungry or needs to be changed. Overall he's very mellow (totally unlike his mommy). We are so blessed.
I have included some baby pics below.
Hugs to all and thanks for asking about us!
