two random and unrelated questions ....
1)If I could choose between a window seat on the left side of the plane or the right side of the plane when flying into STT, which side would provide the best and/or most interesting view on arrival? I imagine only the most veteran St. John traveler would know the answer to this question.
2) Everyone recommends a visit to Jost, but it always seems to be for the bars there. Is there any great reason to visit Jost if I'm not a drinker or partier?
As always, thanks for the help!

I always choose the left side. Took this from my first class seat on the left last year.

Jost is also great if you love a beautiful, beautiful beach with amazing view and water. A place to just chill & relax. Not a lot of other stuff to do there. But it's definitely worth visiting at least once, then you can decide.

I agree with the others on #1. The left side is generally cooler than the right. It is an exceptional day when the wind is out of the west and they have to land in the opposite direction.
I don't remember ever disagreeing with Captain John before now. We took our 16 year-old granddaughter to JVD last month and had a great time. We sat on the beach at White Bay, wandered up and down the bay. Had lunch at Foxy's with Foxy and came home.

Jost? Maybe I am burned out on Jost but the beaches on STJ are as beautiful and less crowded than White Bay. If you aren't into bar hopping, there is plenty to see and do on STJ. After multiple trips, I feel like Jost is an expensive taxi ride just for the sake of visiting another country to get a drink.
ETA - I like to party on vacation so bars/drinking appeals to me. The non-drinkers in our groups over the years thought White Bay was pretty but after one stroll down the beach, they were ready to head back to STJ.

1) I agree with SteveS and personally prefer the right side of the plane for the same reasons that he mentioned.
2) We have been coming down to STJ for 20 years now and still find new things to enjoy about this wonderful 'rock'. And since drinking is not on my list of reasons that I love STJ and it's an expensive day to make a trip to Jost. I'd skip Jost but if you want to spend some money on a boat day I'd recommend going to some great snorkling spots like the Indians or some other out lying cays. Your boat captain can recommend some. If you don't love bar hopping or snorkling, save your money and spend your time on St. John. There's plenty of things to enjoy.

We've been to STJ 9 times and never made it to Jost or any other BVI and we don't feel like we're missing out on anything. 9 trips times 10 nights per trip and in all those days we've never lacked for anything staying on STJ. Each trip we never finish our list of things we want to do while on STJ. Maybe if we went for, I don't know, 3 weeks at a time I'd feel differently, but I definitely wouldn't say that visiting the BVIs is a must, especially on a first trip.

If you're looking for a day off of STJ consider a day charter to check out neighboring islands.
There's also Ginger, Cooper, Salt, Peter and Norman islands (the Cooper Island beach club is a nice little visit).
The Baths at Virgin Gorda are something you should do at least once.
So those are otheer options.
IMHO Jost has a alot more to offer than just bars and a party atmosphere, you just have to travel off the beaten path a bit. But that depends on how much time you have.

*Another fine scatterbrained production
Wife loves the right side window seat. Water, water, water, bump, terminal goes flashing by. Hope the brakes work!
We've enjoyed JVD and the people who live there. Some real personalities! Mic @ Soggy Dollar, Ivan and his honor bar, Foxy's dog, and sometimes Foxy himself. We renewed our wedding vows at the little church on the beach last year. It's a nice little town, much quieter than Cruz Bay. The day ferry trip is cheap enough and gives you plenty of time to see all there is to see. IMO
