What is on the menu this week?
I am on another board that does this. People post what they are making for the week and it becomes a post to share recipes and to get ideas for those nights that you just can't decide what to make.
Any interest?

Re: What is on the menu this week?
I'm in. I made a white bean chili thing tonight that was fairly edible.
How will this thread be different from the food porn one?
I just wanna know my parameters as I'll probably contribute quite a bit. I love to cook, we eat dinner nightly and, well, I like this forum.

Re: What is on the menu this week?
How it works on the other board is that people usually post a weekly menu early in the week. Then all week we share recipes and/ or reviews.
Pictures aren't usually posted but they can be.
It has turned out to be a great resource when you are stuck for dinner ideas!

Absolutely no ideas for this week but I am up for the challenge, will post back later today. I think it is a great idea. I definately do through ruts when meal planning is a chore.

Wow, I am feeling very disorganized...you all know what your meals are for the week? I barely remember to pull meat out before I leave for work. LOL
Re: What is on the menu this week?
I'll contribute...I am pretty good about menu planning. I generally figure out Monday-Friday on Sunday, which is when I go shopping for the week. Saturday and Sunday are planned on Thursdays, which is when I know how many people are going to be coming over on the weekend. I have gotten out of the habit of taking food photos recently, probably because I haven't been cooking anything new to me.
Here is this week's menu:
Sunday: Mario Batali's red wine braised pork ribs (I didn't eat these, as I really don't eat meat, but I will cook meat for weekend family meals), roasted beets, green beans with toasted almonds, Parmesan polenta, and spinach sautéed with garlic
Monday:spaghetti and turkey meatballs in homemade (batch cooked and frozen) marinara sauce
Tuesday: roasted poblano pepper tacos (vegetarian)
Wednesday: udon noodle soup with bok choy, tofu, shiitake mushrooms, snow peas, and poached egg (vegetarian)
Thursday: pizza margarita (vegetarian)
Friday: going to Bermuda. So hopefully some kind of fish.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
Re: What is on the menu this week?
We buy our beef and pork by the half and our chickens from a farmer. We have a big upright freezer to store all of it, which means I need to meal plan so I know what to thaw ahead of time.
This week -
Monday - flatbread pizzas using leftover bits and pieces from the fringe, one pepperoni, one prosciutto with arugula, one mushroom
Tuesday - pasta and salad
Wednesday - roast beef and potato dumplings
Thursday - roast chicken, salad with blue cheese, walnuts and apples
Friday - shrimp and risotto
Saturday - restaurant

Re: What is on the menu this week?
Oh, I'm going to love this thread! It was just Blaine and I at home all summer, and I got into such a rut. It's really hard to learn to cook for 2! Even now that we're back up to 3 for dinner, I'm still in my summer rut.
This week:
Sunday: Chicken parmesan with spaghetti, wild puffball mushrooms sauteed with roasted garlic
Monday: BLTs and chips
Tuesday: Chili and cornbread
Wednesday: Chicken wing sandwiches (roast chicken tossed with a little celery, melted butter and Frank's hot sauce on toasted sub roll and sprinkled with bleu cheese), salsa and chips
Thursday: Meatloaf and something packaged or Shepherd's pie
Friday: Chicken and biscuits
Saturday: I'll be gone. Blaine will probably pick up fast food.
Exislandgirl: I've printed out your recipe and made 3 copies for coworkers, already. Sounds great!

Re: What is on the menu this week?
I like to only shop once a week, so I have to figure out in advance what main dishes we'll have. And my boys are pretty picky. Beef or chicken or ham or bacon....and nothing "fancy."
The chicken stuffed shells were great. I deviated from the list and made them tonight because I had everything in the house. I used shredded roast chicken rather than ground chicken. That was a big hit, and is allllllll gonnnnnnne!

Re: What is on the menu this week?
I never used to menu plan, but over time I had to acknowledge that by not planning I was wasting a lot of food. It's just John and me during the week, so it's easy to buy too many vegetables and have things rot in the crisper drawer. Or I would buy meat for him, stick it in the freezer, and forget about it. I keep an itemized freezer list on the side of the fridge now.
Now I shop with my sister on weekends, and we divide up packages of stuff to make sure everything gets used between our two houses. Anything additional goes to my parents' home (we all live in the same town). Before I started doing this. I probably threw away at least five pounds of perishable food a week. I still throw stuff away but not nearly as much as I used to--less than a pound if I had to guess. Fruit is probably what gets wasted most in my house. John gets free fruit at work, and I don't like sweet things very much.
