Need Help Finding Villa(s) for Large Group (16)

Post by lbrlwyr »

For better or for worse, it looks like our trip to St. John this year will be as larger group of 16 - 8 adults and 8 children (ages 7-9). Our problem as you can imagine is finding a villa on St. John that will accommodate all of us without completely bankrupting us in the process. We are looking to go in the summer (low season) and have a budget of about $10k for lodging.

Any recommendations?? In the alternative, we would also consider two villas that are situated immediately next to each other.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm just interested in the replies you get! :D (and seeing my ticker!!)
We are planning a possibly large group next year and I've wondered where we could find two villas next to each other. We would probably have 12 - 14 people when we do it.

Easy access into Cruz Bay, multiple swimming pools, plenty of space, and it's on a nice level lot with great views.

Thanks Charlie -- great property but ideally we were hoping for one with a few less "pods" and/or ones with internal access so the younger ones won't have to go outside if they need something at night, etc.

I would rent 2 villas that are near each other. I can not imagine a house of 16 people with only one kitchen

How many bedrooms do you think you'll need?

I am thinking at least 6 -- 4 for adult couples and 2 for kids (assuming bunks/pullouts/etc).

Here are some combinations I could think of (I've stayed at one of the properties in each pair/set):

This combination gets you 14 people in beds:
Bay Rum Breeze (3 bedrooms plus office with pull out couch (but no a/c in the office)...1 of the bedrooms is in a separate pod, but the other bedrooms and office are in the main house, sleeps up to 8: http://www.vrbo.com/331278)
and
Apito (2 bedroom plus convertible bed, sleeps up to 6: http://www.vrbo.com/249514)

This combination of 3 villas gets you up to 20 people in beds, less if you want more space:
Blue Aweigh (1 bedroom plus pull out couch, could fit 4 people: http://www.seaviewhomes.com/blue_aweigh.htm)
Samba Azul (2 bedroom plus pull out couc,h plus 2 extra twin mattresses available that can go on the floor gets you 8 people in beds: http://www.seaviewhomes.com/samba_azul.htm)
Le Lapin II (4 bedrooms, could get 8 people in beds: http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/property/le-lapin-ii/)

We stayed at Blue Aweigh and the owners are fantastic. While we were there, they were building Samba Azul on the same property as Blue Aweigh. They also live on the same property in a private residence. The driveways for Blue Aweigh and Le Lapin II are right next to each other.

Here are driving directions to Blue Aweigh, in the second to last picture you can see Le Lapin II's driveway (the two yellow posts mark the base of it):

Oceana has 6 bedrooms, but I don't know how many could be accommodated in beds:

Another combination would be Sol Inclination and South Shore Villa:

The walk up from South Shore Villa to Sol Inclination would be brutal though, it's extremely steep.

Look at Ristaba which has a guest house. And next door is Hawksbill. Should work for your needs.

God bless you. We did it once with 12 people on STT. It can be a great time. Just make sure that the adults have their own bedrooms.

I believe that Rick posted a great report about going away on vacation with multiple couples. Hopefully he'll chime in.

If you are the co-ordination of this trip, you definetly will need some help.

How about Great Expectations?
It says up to 16 people and looks like you can spread out.

Hopefully someone can jump in... One of the villa companies had listings for villa combos, can't recall which one.

Tennis Villa's 4 bedrooms combined with Tennis Cottage's 3 bedrooms.

I haven't stayed here, but I've put it in the back of my mind as a place I could stay with my large family. It doesn't look too elegant, but it could be a nice place where you would have few worries with kids running around being kids. The pool looks huge. It runs much lower than your budget.

There are also a pair of villas right next to the Westin. One has an outdoor pool and one has an indoor pool. They are often reserved together. The names escape me, but I think one is Splash. I'll look further.
Found it....Gull Cottage. Difficult to see the size of the pool. Photo looks small for a group of 16.
